If I lived in Ontario I would buy a Hummer/Humvee.  VROOM,  VROOOOM,  VROOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM...........
So I can drive over all those cars on the 401 parking lot.

Why not a minivan?  Most are FWD, but surely the Camry Wagon wasn't AWD.  Lots of space & reasonable fuel economy.

Thanks, Saf - but it doesn't have a third-row seat.  Nice-looking, though.  Wow.  (I mean the Equinox, not YOU. )

Mr T - You may have missed the part about TIMMINS.  Y'know, land of major snow? AWD and 4x4 are very useful there.  Plus, and I failed to mention this, their cottage is located on a beautiful lake accessible only by a long dirt road through the woods that's seriously bumpy at the best of times, and complete mud in the spring and fall.  They've gotten stuck more than once.

As much as I dislike SUVs and 4x4 pickup trucks (my own personal preference, so STFU all of you), this is one location where it makes sense to have one, all things considered.  He really doesn't want a minivan.  I threw out the idea of a Forester, but, again, service can only be had in North Bay at Rut Ro's dealership.  A four-hour trek south.

Are we all okay on this, now?  Or does anyone else want to chime in and suggest a Toyota Echo as a possibility?

Sorry Brigitte.  You FAILED to mention the cottage.  Since the previous vehicle was a Camry Wagon I surmised that the replacement vehicle could be a non-truck or SUV.  Plus, isn't the general consensus that MOST drivers (even in Timmins) can do well enough with FWD & winter tires?

Y'know, Mr T., I agree with every single statement you've made so far.  And, if I were the one buying the vehicle, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

HOWEVER, since it's NOT my job to talk grown men out of buying what they want, who the hell cares if he can just buy FWD with snow tires?  He's perfectly content considering this as a vehicle.

If you also go back to my post where I announced that the Camry had died, you'll notice that I didn't ask for any advice on his behalf.

So, all of you, STOP BEING ALPHA MALES and go back to your caves, already!

Very funny.  Well, I just talked to my nephew tonight.  Ed hasn't purchased anything yet - he didn't want to make any hasty decisions before leaving for 10 days.  Told you he was a smart guy.  Luckily, his family has the use of a friend's car while he's away.

By the way, my nephew (who is 15) is pretty "bummed" about the car "buying it" because the Camry was going to be "his car" once he got his license...  I roared at that one.

I will close the loop on this post once I find out for sure what Ed gets.  So we can all get some sleep.

I just get excited about other people's car purchases.  I enjoy living vicariously through their thrills and chills of buying a vehicle.  It's also always interesting to see what motivates people to buy one thing and not the other, and the thought process they go through.

Or maybe I'm just nosy.
