Steering wheel/air bag
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:41:54 pm »
When I start the ignition, I get the "infl restraint" light, which is an airbag light allegedly.  Some internet research yields info that 1991 Camaro did have air bags.  MY steering wheel has some pieces of yellow plastic coming out  from either side of the leather.  One friend of mine said "thats the leather shrinking."  But I suspect somebody messed with/disabled the airbag.  does that sound more likely? and how much money would it be to get an airbag in there that works.

Probably more than your car is worth.

I would check the VIN no's and a Dealer will be able to tell you if that Car came with a airbag as Factory Gear. Airbags are expensive to replace and with labour can be quite a bit of money.

Call the local GM parts counter and price out the airbag module, clockspring and the airbag itself.  Bling bling!  Get your credit card out or lotsa cash.  It is also rather complex thing to change.
Good luck.
I miss my motorcycle!

Yes these airbag parts are very expensive so be careful on the pricing on it. They can run into several thousand dollars very quickly just for the parts.

That's exactly what I'm telling you. That NADA number means squat. The Canadian Black Book only goes back to 1992 and it shows a 92 Camaro V6 auto and air in average condition to be worth $1400 wholesale. Thats in Canadian dollars. I'll leave the conversion to American dollars to you.

Of course, The Camaro may be highly sought after in the Florida market.

When I get 30,000 miles out of it, Ill have gotten my moneys worth.  10cents per mile by then.   That $2800 american NADA price I was quoting is retail price. Wholesale is obviously a lot less.  The camaro I was told was traded in at an Acura dealer.  NEw car dealer, who blows out trades to the wholesalers and used car guys. so you know that dealer didnt give diddly squat for the car.  The former owner probably barely got $500.   Or they sweet talked him into a lease.  when they sell you a lease, you never know what you're getting for your trade in.  But I like the friggin car. running decent. looks sharp.  no buyers remorse!!!!!!!   Im more comfortable in traffic in the camaro, then I was in my piece of crap 92 topaz.

Heck...I'd be more comfortable on a banana seat Schwinn than a 92 Topaz!  :-)

Cross-Plies were a type of tire made of different materials. They would go lumpy in cold weather and were not the best for Winter conditions. Nylon and Polyester interwoven together made up the early tires for a no. of years.

Also the plies(the inner windings of the Nylon etc  went cross-wise not radially as in RADIALS, and the tyres sat up firmly not like our present partially flat looking tyres..NOT that anyone checks their pressures anyway..they all think they have run-flats.
Cross plies today would be called always gettin' flats...
