Ok,
I saw a Google.com cache of the exact same problem I am having with my 2001 1.8T (Sept. 4, 2004) posted by Trilateral.

My Jetta has been in the shop for two months.  They can't seem to fix the problem.

The vechicle sputters and idles slightly rough at low rmps in the morning, or when its cold.  Eventually the service engine light comes on, and the car becomes jerky, sometimes undrivable, and stalls.  The car seems to misfire, the Tach bounces up and down between 800 - 1000 when stopped at a stop light.  Sometimes, the whole thing stalls.

The mass airflow sensor has been replaced - twice.  The coils have been replaced.  New sparks have been installed - twice.  The computer has been flashed.  The car still produces misfire faults and the mass airflow sensor produces out of range mixes.

The shop (I got tired of the dealer not fixing anything) specializes in VW's, and they are stuck.

Has someone had this problem resolved.  Sounds like I'm not the only one with this issue.  I'd love to sell the thing, because I could trade it in before it acts up again, but feel bad shoving a problem onto someone elses lap.

Any advice

Toloxo Welcome to the Forum. 2 Months at the same dealer who can't figure it out. I think its time to go to a much more experienced Garage even if need by on the back of a Hook. This shop is not serving you correctly as if they had a clue you would have been in and out of thier shop within hours.

I've been going to the new garage, only because the dealer couldn't figure it before (dating back six months ago) out and wanted to start guess replacing things.

Once the dealter reset the faults, and couldn't repeat the error the next day, they'd slap me on the back, charge $100.00 for a diagnostic fee, and send me packing.

The problem reoccurs shortly thereafter.

It's not me Multi.

And pick another dealer!!!

Odds are something like that has been documented before. The service rep might contact VWoA tech and get an answer.

If I could've, I would've given you a 0... but unfortunately, 1 is the minimum...

Also, what is your definition of a decent guy Multi? Is it someone that uses car pictures from unknown websites and uses them as if his friend gave them to him? Could you clarify this please?

Btw, Merry XMAS to you too...

Multi and Shnak, can you guys keep this feud to one thread please.  Toloxo has an actual problem he's looking for help with.

Toloxo, welcome.  I haven't had this kind of problem with my 1.8T, but have you tried looking through on of the VW-specific forums like http://forums.vwvortex.com/ ?

There might be some people there that have some experience with this particular problem.  Also I think one of the regulars here (Mark?) is fairly  up on VW tech stuff.  Maybe he can help.
