Repair Shop recommendation, Hamilton and surroundings
« on: December 15, 2004, 11:51:28 pm »
Hi,

Was wondering if anyone could recommend an independent place for repairs in hamilton or in half hours drive or so.

I have a Subaru Legacy which needs water pump timing belt etc. And was hoping to see if I could get good work done without paying the dealer.

thanks

Absolutely I can.  In the East end of Brantford is a private mechanic shop called MotorWorks (32 Tamara Place, Brantford 519.756.3060).

Don MacNeil is the owner/ head mechanic and has become the official 'trusted technician' for my family.  My dad has been taking his Saabs there for years now (and I used to take my BMW there once the warranty ran out -- last time I was there they had two Porsches, a Ferrari and an old 7-series in the shop).  Their rates are MUCH more favourable than the dealerships, that's for sure.  Plus, his second-in-command used to work for Prodrive or some big Subie affiliate in England I believe and knows Subarus inside and out.  They're super friendly and will only do the work you really need.

Finding a good service shop that you can trust is no easy task -- I put every bit of faith in the abilities of these guys though.

It sure is a pleasure to read of someone who has total trust and unlimited faith in their tech.
Your last sentence is so true Jeff.
I looked for a long time until I found a tech/shop I wholeheartedly trust to do the job right for me and save me money when things start to wear out by telling me ahead of time. Say what you will, honesty is STILL the best policy.

Absolutely... I just hope nobody is offended by my 'advertising' in my post.  I have no personal ties or friendships with any of the folks at the dealership -- just simply answering the question asked.

I don't think recommendations from one poster to another can be construed as an advertisement.

Jeff,

Thankyou so very much. In my few months yet with SUBARU, I have seen many a known okay (or even better) mechanic scratch their head when asked something about it. The only thing I was starting to hate about the SUBARU was the dealer hours and their plain monopoly.

I will be calling them in the morning.

thanks again.

Finding a good honest mechanic to-day is diificult task for a lot of people. The majority of the Drivers do not know that much about their vehicles as the technology is changing so fast its hard to keep up with. I have a feeling that garage which Jeff recommends is probably owned by the People who run it. Jeff I think it was very proper of you to assisst the poster with your excellent recomendation.
