Wiffy has spun a bearing. After gathering up all my car mags lying around the house and tabulating the cost of buying them at a newsstand…..she has had enough. I can subscribe to one, and one only. She has gone down to one sewing magazine and expects the same from me.

Which one should I get….she will buy me a subscription for X-mass. I have an idea of which one I will go for….but I value everybody’s opinion here….so which one and why?

I just bought a 3-year subscription to C&D (9.99US)as well as a 2 year one to R&T (Also $9.99)on ebay. Not to mention 3 years of Maxim for $7.00! The one hinderance is you need a US Postal box or mailing address. If anyone wants the sellers name, just let me know.

Aside from all the crap you're catching for being bullied, I would have to go w C&D. I often get my subs. when wife's school has a drive on to sell mag. subs to raise money; prices then are very good and wife gets another 50% off as a teacher. I get C&D for example for about $11/yr.
If you wish to go back to Grade 3, Snowy, you can get in on this wonderful deal...

BTW, good one, Bridge. A fiver. The Great Snowman just melted away...hahahahaha..

I second Ovr's suggestion.  Car and Driver is the best -- at least it has the most tests in it anyway.  The pictures are bigger and better in Road and Track though.

Sorry, Snowy - you left yourself WIDE OPEN for that one.  Just simply couldn't resist.

Personally speaking, I'd have a tough time giving the gears to the man who spends an inordinate amount of time detailing my car for me.  But that's a whole 'nother philosophical discussion.  Not my place to judge.  No sir.  Not me.

I know you can't take your computer to the 'reading room,' but aren't a lot of these mags available online?  Paper is more fun, but still...  Just a thought.

My favourite is Carguide.  The canadian magazine.  Their February editions are phenominal.

Definitly the best for me!

I stopped my subscription to Wheels because it was getting tacky.

Two words to solve that problem B.  Wireless router.

For the record, I do not have a wireless router and I do not take you guys to our reading room with me.

Good thinking, MD - if not for the yuck-thanks-for-the-visual factor, then certainly for this:

Studies have shown that men who frequently balance their laptops on their laptops for long periods of time tend to nuke their own swimmers right in the bag (pun intended).

Again, NONE of my concern.

Sorry Snowie but I have to give a 5 on Brigittes shot back there as well. I still receive around 6-7 mags monthly and I have to do the same cut down as you. My Favorite is Old Auto's which is 100% Candian. Car and Driver just lost me with their weird voting on the GTO and Mustang. The GTO clearly was the winner until the silly part which I have never seen before with any rating of any vehicle came in to effect.

I'll second Carguide. Their all biased to an extent,  it's rare you can spot Carguide being biased, Motortrend being the worst offender. Their monthly bias is based on advertising, the more a car company advertises the more likely their cars are car of the year.

Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations…..I was going with Car and Driver….but after the Mustang vs. GTO comparo they have gone down a notch. I’ sure here will be all kinds of fall-out form that in next months issue.

I gave you a five too Bitchette…err Brigitte…. I laughed out loud.

I dunn'o I can't seem to find the time to read a paper anymore let alone a magazine.Hell, I stopped buying the Saturday paper months ago!
The only time I'll buy a mag anymore is when I'm at the airport waiting for a flight I might even by two if that flight is headed to my inlaws. Usually after I've bought that magazine I've got a guilt trip that I should be reading work related papers but that's another story.
As Brigette wrote earlier; There's quite a bit of online material written that you can get for free, why bother killing another tree unless it's a special issue.
