I am looking to buy a 88 doge ram short box. It has a 3.9 v6 with 140 k. I dont know anything about this 3.9 litre v6. I know the slant 6 and 318 were great but i know nadda about this one. Anyone have any knowledge obout this late model motor. Thanks. Clay.

Welcome Cordoaowner to the Forum. The 3.9 is a Decent engine which if looked after like any other will serve you very well. Many of the trades vehicles came with them and they are still out there working. They are not a race engine but will work well under a load.

The only bad thing I have ever heard about that engine is its bad fuel consumption. My father has a Dakota 87 with the old 3.9 and it still goes strong with 300,000 km and full of rust around. Amazing.
