Been looking for winter tires...anyone have comments or experiences with the Yokohama IG10 winter tires? They are going on a Acura RSX. Steel rims will be used. Live in the GTA. Thanks.

Over the past month and a half, I've put about 5,000 kms on mine. They're 185/60R15s mounted on 6" alloys on a '99 Civic SiR.

Around town, they're great. Snow and ice traction are excellent, but performance in deeper slush isn't quite as impressive (very limited experience in slush so far, though). Handling on bare pavement is acceptable at speeds up to about 100 km/h, bad at 120 km/h, and scary at anything faster. Noise is probably about average for a winter tire, although they do seem to "sing" quite loudly in the rain on certain types of pavement.

For hard-core winter performance, they're probably the best non-studded, Q-rated, winter tire I've tried. I just don't think they're particularly well suited to a sportier car like a Civic SiR or RSX Type-S. On an Si or RSX, they might be a better match.

If you do go with these (or another Q-rated tire), I'd suggest sticking with the stock size, or maybe a minus zero. With the softer sidewall, I'd stay away from minus-one sizes. Just my 2 cents.

I have a set on my wife Forester S, and on ice and packed snow they are awesome - stick so well they engage the ABS everytime. They are not bad in deep snow - tend to track ok.

If the ABS comes on, that means the tires are NOT sticking, they are trying to lock up.  This will greatly reduce the distance you can stop on ice/snow.
