Demanufactured Welcome to the Forum. I would get on the ph. and talk to GM's Hotline as they have more info available then the Dealers do quite often. They should be able to direct you to the right people who will have this knowledge you need.

This is long but contains the information you are looking for, reformat and print this out and bring it to your local GM tech or whoever needs to perform the task. I have bolded the section that explains why your radio is displaying this

Radio Setup
For the DE 100 series radio, complete the following procedure, using a scan tool, in order to properly set up communication:

At the Main Menu screen, select: Diagnostics.
At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following options:
(1) 2001 (Model Year)
Passenger Car
At the System Selection Menu screen, select: Body.
At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the N (Platform type).
At the Body screen, select: Radio.
At the Radio screen, select: Special Functions.
At the Special Functions screen, select: Radio Setup.
At the Radio Setup screen, press ENTER (The following test will set up a new or existing radio).
Select one of the following Regular Production Options (RPO) using the arrow keys and press ENTER.
UM6
U1Q + UL2
U1P + U85
U1Q + U85
Select one of the following options:
USA/Canada
Export
Press the ENTER key.
Verify that the scan tool displays "Test in Progress."
Verify that the scan tool displays "Test Completed Successfully."
Press EXIT on the scan tool.

Important
The radio set up will configure the following systems:

LEARN VIN
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Class 2 Radio Messages
Country Code
Chime Volume
Chime Level
12/24 Hour Clock
Without learning the VIN, the radio will display a locked message (LOC).

The radio setup procedure will also clear the following messages:

CAL
CAL ERR
CALIBRATE

Cycle the ignition.
Radio Tuner Calibration
In order to calibrate the radio, begin at the Special Functions screen. Repeat step 1 through step 7 of the Radio Setup, if needed.

At the Special Functions screen, select F1: Set Options.
At the Set Options screen, select F1: Tuner Setting.

Important
The F0: Country Code option does not contain a submenu. Country Code sets the point of sale, or origin, in the radio in order to calibrate the tuner for the country that the vehicle will be used in.

At the Tuner Setting screen, select F0: Country Code.
Radio Chime Volume Selection
In order to set the chime volume, begin at the Special Functions screen. Repeat step 1 through step 7 of the Radio Setup, if needed.

At the Special Functions screen, select F1: Set Options.
At the Set Options screen, select F0: Chime Settings.

Important
The F1: Loud Chime Volume and the F2: Normal Chime Volume options do not contain a submenu. These selections are used for setting the volume when the radio is replaced.

At the Chime Settings screen, select one of the following options:
F1: Loud Chime Volume
F2: Normal Chime Volume
Radio Chime Level Selection
In order to set the Chime Level, begin at the Special Functions screen. Repeat step 1 through step 7 of the Radio Setup, if needed.

At the Special Functions screen, select F1: Set Options.
At the Set Options screen, select F0: Chime Settings.

Important
The F0: Chime Level option does not contain a submenu. The Chime Level setting has an option of setting a normal chime or a loud chime when the radio is replaced.

At the Chime Settings screen, select F0: Chime Level.

Holy bananas, Run.  Did you have that information just laying around on your coffee table, waiting for the right moment?

Good catch.

Thanks folks, I have access to an elecronic GM service manual, comes in real handy. Of course, I would not know how to do this radio setup thingie, but sometimes having access to information can help.
