Cute little problem
« on: December 11, 2004, 08:30:38 pm »
For the past 6 months, I've been experiencing this "cute" little problem - only it's not so cute anymore. As I'm driving, my doors lock (98 EL). It usually happens over a bump. I have had this problem intermittently in the past but never looked into it since it wasn't anything serious. Well, now it's happening all the time. I like to say my car is "haunted". A few days ago, I started my car and went to clean the sheet of ice on it. After I shut the door (keys in ignition, motor running), my doors locked. Luckily I was at home and had a spare set of keys.  Is there an easy way to fix this problem?

That happened to me once with a '82 BMW 528e in February in Calgary. I had no extra keys nearby. It was not fun waiting for the locksmith in cold weather, then having to pay about $50 to get it open. In my case, I closed the trunk and heard this ominious "click", all locked.

I have a habit of putting my drivers window half way down when I leave the vehicle running for a minute or 2. I've had them lock as well.

Loose wire or connection also will do this.

My subaru is starting to do this, lucky for me it locks all the doors but the driver one.
