Damn broke my passenger mirror
« on: December 10, 2004, 04:59:35 pm »
It must be the law of averages.
Avoided one collision and now broke my passenger side mirror when backing out of the garage.
(Sometimes I wish they were folding mirrors)

Going to get it fixed on Tuesday; $200 some lesson.
Now i feel bad.

Hmm I really thought folding mirrors were standard on all cars! Well that sucks... luckily, it's only 200$...

Well, even if it were a folding mirror, you would have broken it BACKING out of the garage (unless you fold your mirrors in when parked in the garage, but who does that?).

Bhatch6 drives a Mazda 6 - I don't think they go both ways  Actually, I didn't know that Volvo's mirrors did that. Any others do that? I've never seen one that folds both ways.

I'm pretty sure my Golf goes both ways also. I think the salesman showed me that.

That sucks, Bhatch.  Really, really sucks.  BUT - at least you did it yourself, rather than some anonymous ass clown in a mall parking lot who didn't leave a note.

When our street was under construction, there was one day where I had to angle my car towards my neighbour's driveway to back out (don't get me started).  They were pouring the curb in front of my driveway, and tall 2x4's marked that area.  I was so worried about hitting those while backing out, that I overcompensated and miscalculated the curb height of my neighbour's side.

I heard a scrap and a thump.  The front plastic 'skirt' (is that what it's called?) on my Jetta is so low, that it dragged over the concrete.  One small area of my front bumper on the passenger side now looks like it pulled away from the main body of the car by about 1/8".  Every time I wash my car, I see it and I kick myself.  It's not a big deal, and I'll have VW look at it.  But it bugs the hell out of me.

It's not the end of the world, and you can have it fixed.  It's a lesson learned, and that's about it.

Brigitte

Atleast you didn't scratch the door.  An ex-girlfriend in University did that to their Accord.  I always told them never to turn the wheel until the car's on the driveway....tried to get them to understand the logic that if it went in OK, it'll come out OK...no need to compensate.

Now....that'll queue up the Safman.  :-)

Yeah, my Golf's mirror folds toward the front as well, just not as flush as it does when folding rearward. But at least it provides some leeway.

As for your Jetta Brigitte, I've seen a number of Jettas with the front black plastic skirt hanging down. Even a few with the entire bumper assembly. I wouldn't be all that thrilled either.

Get that 6 fix-ed!

I wish mine folded. I bought a new Civic last month and one day I was cleaning my mirrors and saw the thing was sticking out. Some jerk gave a good punch on it or something. I don't know what happened. Anyway, I went to the dealer and they wanted me to pay. I said to them, what about the warranty? They finally put it on the warranty. They said, ok it's a 2005, you won't pay for it.

Wasn't it supposed to be covered by the warranty in the first place if it wasn't my fault?

That shouldn't be covered under the warranty Mike, so consider yourself lucky and appreciate what your dealer did, '05 or not.

Honda could of perhaps designed a mirror to fold, but the fixed mirror that is on your car was performing exactly as intended. The component didn't fail, and it wasn't under Honda's control that your mirror got hit by someone else.

That's similar to saying that someone keyed your car in a parking lot, but that it's Honda's fault. It's an accident, and usually it's you, the person who caused it, or insurance who pays for such items.

But it is a silly design in an effort to cut costs. Be happy it was put thru warranty :-) Keep that Civic clean, but next time just park further away 'n get some exercise    haha. Listen to me, the guy who cruises the lot looking for the primo spot nearest the door!

Bhatch it is a nice feeling when you get those nasty repairs finally done….Good show. I have been procrastinating on some damage I done to Wiffy’s Highlander and she is starting to hound me again…..Yes Brig….I hear whips.

When we moved back in August I borrowed a trailer and after using it one night I made a boo boo. I backed the trailer into the drive and un-hooked it and placed the wheel chocks…..I pulled away but forgot to remove the safety chains….Ouch. The hitch rammed into the rear bumper and gouged the paint. I know this is going to cost at least $500.
