I can't see at night in my subaru, I have purchased the brightest bulbs (halogens) I could find in Canada.  It's not even a contest, the HIDs on my S2000 are brighter than my high beams on my subaru, they are brighter than any other car I've driven or been in.

Actually I was parked next to a 2000 BMW a few months back, we both started up our cars and turned on our headlights.  He turned his on (HIDs) and lighted up the parking lot ahead, I turned mine on and over powered his lights!  He was shocked, so was I.

There is sooo much of a difference it's unbelievable.  I believe if my lights were aftermarket they would be illegal, but because they are OEM they are legal.  They are something like 9k or 8500 or something and VERY bright.

Indeed Saffy.
Last week there was a morning with a bit of fog.  Not East coast fog, mind you -- just Ontario fog.  The kind that really doesn't require the use of foglights.
Anyhoo, I saw a new Jeep Liberty with the Hillbilly package (or whatever it is that comes with the stadium lighting across the top).  The jackass driver felt the light fog warranted having his headlights, foglights and all 4 spotlights on... while driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the QEW.  I just passed him as part of the opposing traffic. I'd imagine if he'd been following me I'd have completely lost my mind.  You wanna see roadrage?  Yowsa.  :-)

Jeff, I saw this same clown on my way last week also.  Was this on Tuesday?  I almost drove into the ditch as I couldn't stop laughing at him.  Does he really think those will help him see?
Then once I got to the top of the Hamilton Mountain the fog was down to 100m visability.  Then I would see people without any lights at all.  More clowns.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

hey james;  the higher hid output (like 8000k or 9000k) doesn't mean higher light output.  It means the light will look more blue-purple.  It produces more un-usable light (ex. like a blacklight).  I think the maximum LIGHT output is somewhere around 5000k but that looks more white than blue.

more blue = more bling.

Replacement Xenons are mucho dinero and they are add to the car's weight. If you really need some bright lights check out some Osrams or call your local Rally club.

You guys keep saying that the Xenon systems add a lot of weight.  But I thought the xenon system would weight the same as a normal headlight set-up (with the addition of a small box for power supply or something - which could only add what, 10lbs max?)

I happen to think that Liberty package looks very cool (makes me think of Jurassic Park). But I wouldn't be able to use those lights many places at all. Just like the rear fog, I don't go blazing around with it on unnecessarily. What a bozo. Bet he'd much rather have those mounted on a Hummer if he could of afforded it. Hmmm... could I be stereotyping here?

But, the reason I'm posting... about 2 mths ago I was getting on the 401 with 2 friends and a Jetta III was in the left lane and passed me. Nothing abnormal, except I felt the need to speed up to get a better glimpse of the 9!!!!!! LCD screens he had in his otherwise stock Jetta. He had 2 mounted on the sunvisors, 2 on either side on top of the dash, one under the rear view, one on the driver's side A-pillar, in the backs of the front headrests, and one hanging from the roof in the middle of the car. Unbelievable. We couldn't stop laughing outselves into convulsions. It was dark so you couldn't miss the car. Would be nice to follow him on the way to Montreal, but how much more ridiculous could you get? I mean honestly, the only way to excuse him would be if he sold the systems and it was a demo mobile, but even then. And isn't that type of thing illegal? Still can't get over it.

When I lived up in the real north we would mount aircraft landing lights to our bush guards on the front of our 4x4’s. Clear glass with no diffusion and perfect reflective surface. I have never seen anything as bright. I believe this is the same type of design used by rally car lights.

Nothing exceeds like excess, Aquaman.  Too funny.  Can't miss a second of "LeMans"!  (I hear it's a must-have for any DVD collection)
