Freezing locks on 1994 Sentra
« on: December 08, 2004, 07:22:34 pm »
My mother's 1994 Nissan Sentra has problem with locks freezing up on her during winter. Key goes in lock but cannot be turned. It is such a problem that now she does not even lock the doors.

Does anyone have similar problem with this car? Does anyone have any solutions. I have tried WD40 and Grafite spray without much success.

Maybe just poor design........

Living my BMW dream.

There is a pressurized small can of antifreeze that you just spray into the lock hole. Any auto supply shop, Cdn.Tire or dealer should have it.

Is that little flap (in the keyhole) that keeps moisture out of the locks broken?

2 words, Fluid Film. Spray it the lock, it creeps, but doesn't dry, freeze, eat plastic parts, or kill the environment.

A Product I use here is called DPL which I buy at a GM dealers for about $5.00. Its made for this purpose to keep the locks from seizing in the winter. WD40 is not a good product as it is a Dangerous product to work with, please try to use other products instead of this one. Read the Whimas Specs on it and be very careful when you use it. Banned in my shop.

Hey, Maritime_storm...I thought my Dad and I were the only ones to know about Fluid Film!  Great stuff, isn't it?  I used a whole can of it recently to 'undercoat' my Jeep.

My Dad and I consider Fluid Film and Steel'y our 'secret weapons'.    Seems we can fix just about anything with these products.

Fluid Film product sounds interesting. Found web site and it says it is only available at John Deer centers. None of these on island of Montreal. Is there anywhere else I can get this stuff.

Canadian Tire tends to carry it.  You'll find it amongst their automotive lubricants, etc. and some auto parts stores (UAP, et al) do as well.
