I have surprisingly little to quibble with on the list. I assume the Toyota Prius won in 2004 for Best Alternative Power (otherwise I'd question the Honda call). And I'm not sure about the KIA Spectra for Best Economy? A pretty good list tho overall.
2011 BMW X3 35i Vermillion Red, MSport
and
2012 Toyota Camry SE V6 in Alpine White

I will diagree on a few of them, I like the Mustange but to me the new Vette should have won. I like the new Seville better then the 300C but these are my personal picks.

I think the thing w the Mustang vs C6 Corvette is that the Mustang is the first all new Mustang in decades whereas (as much as I really like the Corvette) the C6 is an upgrade/improvement on the C5 and not an all new car like the Stang. I suspect that's why it was picked over the C6. Both would be welcome in my garage !! Or even one of them..

I'd think a Boxster and 911 would have been considered in the convertible and sports car category.  I'd also think the SRX would have been in the running for crossover or SUV category.  Luxury car would have probably included the 5 series and possibly the Cadillac STS.

Here's a question...since when was the Mazda 6 new for 2005?

Since they were declared late 2004 additions that qualified for 2005.
They weren't availabe when they were doing the 2004 awards. (only the sedan was available)

I've read the somewhere, cant find where.

I was at Durham Kia the other day and was very impressed with the new Spectra...very nice car inside and out...interior quality is just as good as Japanese. Overall, the Spectra offers a great package for the money.

I agree with most on the list….The Tucson is a Crossover from what. The Tucson is a small ute not a half-breed. They need to expand a few categories, especially in the crowded SUV market. Mustang for best sports coupe but the Corvette should be best sports car.

I don’t know MD…the MB SLK 350 is hot. Finally it has the power and handling to match the styling. It makes the Boxster look like a Toyota.

Mazda is king of the affordable family fun cars…..can’t wait to see the MPS 6.

I agree with the list for the most part...
Great for Kia & Hyundai - like Snowman I question the Tuscun being a crossover/half breed..
Once again we have the Japanese;
Mazda with the other 2 6's way to go Mazda.
Honda easy walk in the park for the Van as both Nissan & Toyota came out the year early. Alternative Power; Hmmm you would have thought maybe give it to Ford for the Escape Hybrid - for being the 1st Sport Ut to use this alternative power in a Sport Ut.(Just an idea)
Toyota no matter what some have said with regards to seating they make a great truck that just goes & goes & goes..
Then from the UK;
Volvo - S40 - love that car very sweet...
BMW agree with Multi - should also get the Ugly award..
MB - agree with Snowman I'd pick it over the Boxster, sorry MD..
Then we come to the Big 3
Chrysler 300 C - agree
Ford Mustang - got to agree
GM - Nada zipo nothing...I guess there's always next year, sorry Barrie!

The MB is nice....but I'm not a big fan of the snout.  It is a vast improvement over the shopping cart they offered before and deserves a nomination.  Atleast it's got a stick now.

I forgot to add my 2 cents to the list in my original post.

I mostly agree, like the majority, however I'd say that they SRX deserves a spot on the list and the Tucson is questionable as well. They should really expand these categegories or at least word them differently to help make the choices clearer.

I thought the X3 has been out for a while and the reviews that I have read were fairly mixed. Most were unfavourable. Then again, I should take my own advice and not base an opinion of a vehicle purely on reviews.

http://www.ajac.ca/english/ccoty/vote_results.asp?lang=1 has the scoring results. Very interesting.

Some personal observations:
- Kia Spectra: I know the Spectra is a very good effort, and a very quiet, powerful, and capable car. It's just I see the Cobalt/Pursuit as such a departure for GM and the domestic small car industry that I was hoping GM would take it. That said, I'm sure they'll sell well and Kia could use the spot light more, and should be congratulated for the standard side curtain airbags (which I'm sure was the clincher for it). Smart is ultra efficient, but just wouldn't score well, and is for a certain type of buyer. Think it should be mentioned for something though.
- Somewhat surprised the Mazda6's took both categories. In Family Sedan, it's certainly not the largest or most comfy car (Five Hundred probably takes this, with Allure close) but it trounces Legacy for value (if not, the Leg probably would have stolen it. It came close). In the Wagon category the Mazda was probably the best blending of virtues, but I'm still surprised - especially over the Magnum, which actually was behind Legacy Wagon and V50 in votes.
- In Lux Car, 300C makes sense. RL is too pricey and small. Phaeton is an unbelievably detailed machine, but is ultra-luxury, and can't compete on value. STS is nice, but not enough.
- BMW X3 (as mentioned) sticks out the most for me on the list. It's smallish, with a harsh ride, and I really don't see it as the best at anything - not even handling. In the vehicles nominated (which I agree should have included the SRX, or others), even I would have chosen the Grand Cherokee (yes, you heard that right Multi ;). LR3 is winning accolades, but I don't know enough about it, or pricing in Canada.
- Glad to see Tucson win its category (tho I love the Canada-only X-Trail and think the Freestyle is a great effort).
- S40 will probably raise some eyebrows because it's not so overtly sporting but is very deserving. S60, didn't realize the S40i with the 168hp engine could shoot to 60mph as fast as it does.
- Mustang hands down. What a car! Corvette is an evolution, this is more a revolution. Well, not quite, but close. CTS-V is unique and should have scored higher (ugly dash or not).
- Odyssey. Who would argue? I would also select Tacoma too.
- Convertible is a tough one, as that's quite the spread of product. Could have gone any way. To be honest, as outlandish as it sounds I might of actually chosen the PT Cruiser because it seats 4 (or 5?) comfortably, can be had with the turbo (albeit, still isn't fast), and I heard the top itself is a quiet, quality piece. But not complaining with the SLK, except that I can't fit into the thing.
- Besides the X3, the Accord Hybrid sticks out again here, as the Escape Hybrid (at less cost, with 4X4) will probably make the biggest splash of them all. Personally like the Benz CDI, but I knew that wasn't going to be category winner.

One question: How can the Jeep Grand Cherokee qualify to be truck of the year when it didn't win its segment? My understanding under AJAC was that the vehicle had to win in it's category in order to become Car or Truck of the Year. I suppose not, or it's a typo.

Long post. Got carried away. Sorry.

Why would car and driver give CANADIAN car of the year? They're American. THey have their "10 Best awards"
