New Tires for a 2002 Mazda Protege 5
« on: December 07, 2004, 08:45:06 pm »
I am looking to get some new tires for my Protege 5 and I'm unsure what to get. I have looked at Toyo Proxes and Kumho Ecsta but I'm not sure how they will fair with winter driving. I live in the city and drive under 10,000 km/year. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)

Not recommended for snow, but if you drive as little as it sounds you can probably park it during the winter snow storms. If this is the case all-seasons will do you well. Tires to consider would be: OE Dunlop SP5000, Kumho Ecsta ASX, Toyo Proxes 4 or Toyo TPT. I give the nod to the Ecsta ASX on wear and to the Proxes 4 in stability and dry. Both are also less expensive than the stock Dunlop and will deliver better results.

I have been looking for the Kumho Ecsta ASX tires but I was told that they aren't available in Canada yet...it this correct? If not, where would I be able to find a retailer in Southern Ontario?

Thanks!

The Kumho ASX is definitely available in Canada. It was introduced in the spring and should be available at any Kumho dealer in Ontario. It may also go by the name Kumho KU21. Of course we also sell them, so if you are having trouble give us a look.
