Topic: Krown rust protection - how do you clean it off ashphalt??

Hi,

Just got my car rustproofed at Krown Markham on the weekend.  This is the 4th time I've done this, but the first time since I've moved into a house from my condo.  Anyway, my ashphalt driveway is now covered in drops and drops of the stuff.  The Krown people say that it will wash off with rain and the winter weather, but it looks like pretty permanent stuff to me.  Anyone have advice on how to clean it off, or did I just stain my driveway for life?

Spic n' Span works great as does dishsoap.  Baking soda mix'd with water.  Engine cleaner also, kitty litter over time and coarse salt.

Yes, they look pretty bad, but from my own personal experience they do pretty much fades out by next Spring. Besides, just look at it as extra protection for your driveway.

strange how it'll easily run of asphalt, but stick firmly to your car.

Not to worry, it really goes away after a few months. I usually park on the street for the first day or so before it gets to my driveway. I don't remember it leaving any permanent stains.

It's not suppose to "stick firmly" to the car.  It is different than the BS sold and spayed at new car dealerships; the sticky guck.

I avoid the driveawy first couple of days.  An old couple, who live a few doors door tell me when they are planning to be away for regular medical testing in Toronto and I arrange to have my own cars Krowned at that time.

How long do ya figure it'd take an oily product to dry?  No, it's not dry.  It drips a bit, makes a mess of your pants if you're not careful... looks kinda greasy on the windows, but keeps your car from rusting.  It's good stuff and it will wash away from the driveway.

It's wet when you pick the car up.
It's wet all the way home.
It's all run to the rear bumper and what's left drips from there.

In warm weather it drips for about 3 days if the Krown people put lots on.  Almost all of this is from the interior panels via the drain holes.

Do not use your favourite cleaning brushes, etc. on the first car wash.

When I was in university, one of my summer jobs was testing natural gas wells in south-eastern Alberta. One day, one of the labor crew pick-ups ended up in the oil/water/sediment flare pit. It dripped for days too and I bet that sucker never rusted out after that incident.....

That was the same summer that the Chief Engineer's yellow Lab used to go out to the gas wells with me. One day, ole Pal went swimming in one of those oily flare pits. He dripped for days too and the C.Eng. was not too happy with me. Ole Pal had to stay home after that....

He'd make one heck a bird dog after that....more bouyant. And waterproof. No more wet dog smell.  That oily dog smell is a bugger tho!
