How much can i get for a 90 Toyota 4-Runner??
« on: December 06, 2004, 03:59:33 am »
Hi,

I was thinking of selling my 90 Toyota 4-Runner. Wondering what price i should ask...

Its a 22RE Engine, Auto, 4CYL,4X4, No dents, 33X12.5X15 BFG MudKing Tires (3 good tread, 1 worn tread),208kms,Sony CD,Alarm,Bullbar, a/c,Very Clean inside, NO Rust! New Brakes (receipts for brakes and recent tune up & inspection), has some scratchs on door and i may look at having re-sprayed before sale.

-(back window will not go down at moment - may be loose wire as was working perfect 2 days ago -will rectify b4 sale)

-Any approx value on this type of vehicle in BC, Canada?? I hear these engines are one of the best - strong and easy to fix -- is this true?

-Need to sell as i need a smaller vehicle due to travel for job.

Any info great - thanks

You'll get what the market in BC will bear for that model.  Check the autotrader and local papers for average selling prices and factor this in when picking a price to sell your truck at.  People can be fickle and a minor thing like the rear window might blow the sale.  Good luck
I miss my motorcycle!

I can't give an exact price, but the market for that type of vehicle (particulaily a Toyota or Nissan) is strong for off-road hunting, exploring, fishing rig. Check your local papers, Autotrader like Eric said. I think you'll be surprised at the value (higher than you think).

Or you can always stick it on Ebay and see how receptive people are to your truck.

I would give up on EBay....collector cars will fetch you good value but it's not worth it to shop online for a car you can get locally.

No, don't use Ebay for that vehicle. In BC, it'll sell OK, just get it out there for exposure in AutoTrader.

BC?  nuff said.  Welcome to the land where old Toyota's are as good an investment as gold. Assuming the body's not rusty, taking into account your des. check the trader for asking price, go in the middle of private sellers... but sell it your self.  $7000-$8000 would be my guess...

People are funny when they are selling cars.

Electro here posts in the tech forum about what sounds like fairly serious head gasket problems on this truck but makes no mention of it when he posts 20 minutes later asking how much it's worth.

A problem on a 15 year old truck with 208,000km where exhaust is mixing with coolant may just slightly affect its value.

By about 99% I'd say. I wonder how tough this truck is. Usually an anti-freeze problem that causes head gaskets to go. If this wasen't maintained then what else was left on its own?

Its me again. That is correct - i did post under the tech section. The 4-Runner is in the shop at the moment to rectify a potential problem in the engine. I was told these 22RE Engines are strong runners and i havent got the exact diagnosis as yet (hoping tomorrow). After reading posts online i figured it may be the headgasket.

By the time i sell i would want truck in safe working order (unlike the fella who sold it to me to begin with). I had brand new brakes put in and i also plan to update the tires.

I was curious for down the road about selling this vehicle. I paid $5000 and was aware i needed to replace brakes (a mech didnt see the engine trouble and truck running fine).

I did see in the paper recently that 4-Runners (some with rebuilt engines) are going between $7000-$8000 approx.

I'm new to owning a Toyota 4-Runner and dont know much with buying and selling. I figure i paid $5000 and will need to put a few grand to get in in top shape before i sell...so i want to see if its possible to sell and get the money i put into it back. Thanks for all the info...Cheers!

P.S. I know people read other topics on this site - I'm not posting to sell the truck on this site either.

I had two different questions - not trying to pull a fast one (i'm only stupid when it comes to buying cars).

Thanks for the info.

I will need to do some work on the top part of the engine only (accord to Toyota Mech). Cost approx $2600.

Which is more desired with the 4-Runners a 6Cyl or 4Cyl??? The gas mil is better on the 4Cyl. Hmmm...I also hear 6 Cyl have more headgasket trouble. Not sure though.

To the average person, a V6 would 'appear' to be the more desirable engine.  But most 'Yota' fans would know about the longevity of the 4 banger.
