Hi there!

Just wondering if people had tried out the X-Ice in winter conditions!! (if someone had a downpour of snow!). Anyway, I had previous experience with Michelin Alpins and the WS-50. People are telling me that the X-Ice, being a new tire should outperform the other competition.

I live in Montreal and wondering if I should go back with the more expensive Blizzaks. I can have both for the same price but the Michelin also have that 50$ gas card from Petro-Canada offer!

Thanks for any advice!

Jay

I would say Michelin will offer a little better deep snow performance with its more open tread design. Hard to tell how they will compare so early, but I'm sure we have some comments coming soon....

I think the $50 Petro offer ended on November 13th, but it may very from vendor to vendor. You may want to double check with your dealer.

Thanks... Well, I've always heard that the latest technology is usually the best. But I've been very satisfied with the Blizzak's. Btw, I called up Michelin and they told me that officially the promotion ended on Nov. 13th (as you mentionned) but the vendor told me otherwise. Maybe it's a sales tactic to get them out??

It is probably not intentional. They may not realize that the offer expired. Give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Winter tire technology has definitely been improving. The Blizzak has had a very good track record. The Michelin X-Ice is definitely an improvement on the Arctic Alpin. Both very good winter tires. At this time of year decision may just depend on availability.

I guess you're right. But after analyzing the different tires offered by mutiple companies, I think I would take the Dunlop Graspic DS2 would offer me the best value for the money?! And if not then I would try out the Toyo Observe GO2 + and then my third option would be the X-Ice.

Thanks,
Jay

Morty! I just bought the Toyo Observe G0-2 Plus tires. I will keep you and everyone posted on how they do in the 'real' winter conditions!!

Hello all!

Well, in Montreal (tuesday evening) it's freezing rain and snow/slush out there! Trust me, it can't get better than this for testing out new winter tires! First off, I have to say that I only started using them on monday so I have maybe 25 kms (mostly highway use). So I'm not sure they are totally 'broken in'.

As for the Toyo Observe GO-2 plus, they are really quiet (more than I was used to on the Blizzaks and the Artic Alpin!). Very impressed.

My car was parked all day long in a open air parking lot and the freezing rain made a nice 'ice rink' and tried doing some spins and handbreak turns! For ice traction, it's very good (I'd say right under the Blizzaks in performance). I wasn't sure for the aquaplaning (lots of water on the highway) and they tires kept me on the highway and was very stable, didn't feel the car 'lift'.

Right now, I'm just happy that I got them on monday and was able to drive through hell this evening!! I think for the price I paid: 110$ each, it's worth the money invested. I heard that the X-Ice has a really soft compound. So I can't wait to see if these Toyo Observe can last a wee bit longer?

p.s.: Also the Observe's has a nice sidewall (more closer to the cool looking Blizzaks than the Michelin's).
