Oh I know why we have pathetic winters, just that I have never heard of the "Japanese Current"

A quick search on google didn't find much, but I did get this exert: " Ocean currents like the Gulf Stream, the Japanese current, and others are also powerful influences on the movement of heat fom the equator to the poles, and thus on our winds and weather. " - http://www.hawkhill.com/403s.html

Hmmm I guess the term "Japanese Current" is just not used very often?  Interesting though!
Strange how I never came across this term through my Geography courses.

I wish we had snow though... so to the rest of Canada, you guys are lucky.  I have been able to get by with a T-shirt this past week - all-be it a wet one.

OVR, did you pick up that term back in the day when you went to school?  Maybe that's why it's out of my vocabulary!

I don't care about 'youse' guys warm weather. Today it's like minus 100 down here with that friggin wind chill factor and a good 20 cm of snow to boot.

I almost froze the Royal you know whats just trying to do the driveway and then having to make a path for the dogs to run was another adventure. Boy the other half is going to pay dearly for this when Costa Rica is over.

Football tomorrow might be very interesting as a result of this weather (snow & wind) we are getting today and more tonight.

Where's the rum - I feel a hot toddy coming on!

I swear Rob...the next time I see you cry about not having snow.... image

I'd say 2 winters in the -30C and you'll be lugging your frozen cajones back over to the island hoping they don't stay blue forever.  The grass is always greener on the other side....or is it?

The only problem I have with west coast winters is there's no sun.  We get plenty of sun, and plenty of cold.  All in all, it's not that bad if you look at it from the grand scheme of things.

When I was in NS and PEI this past summer, saw so many nice places for sale for what I considered was little money (comparatively speaking compared to Western Canada). But then you realize the Maritimes gets these blizzards with 40 or 50 cms of snow about 3 or 5 times a winter; and you realize it's another one of those places in Canada where it would great to spend about 8 months and be somewhere else for 4 winter months. I think the Maritimes is getting it again this weekend. It's warm and melty here and forecast same for next 2 weeks.

that's the ski hill that's supposed to have over 2 meters of snow around now.  rain rain go away.  (I'm not crying mdx ) Anyway, if you hate the white stuff, why not move to our local ski hill?

Mdx, would you actually prefer a winter with no snow in Edmonton?

Suds - I was through your town last summer. My wife's cousin lives in the Merigonish area right on the Northumberland Strait. Their postal address is actually Ponds, NS. We stayed with them a couple of days in early Aug. It was very pleasant then but now - bbrrr. I know what a big snowfall and fierce winds can do as I grew in rural Alberta and have seen many a blizzard.

Hope you got all your supplies and your Jack's.

I heard there were quite a few deaths, or at least bad frostbite cases, from hot drunks trying to cool off outside in the cold.  something to keep in mind for your next fraternity party! (in any other place that the west coast)

I never said I hated snow.  Like I said in my earlier post, it's not that bad.  But, if you want snow so much, do something about it.  The world isn't going to change the climate in Victoria for just you....

Robbie you ain't seen Snow until you have been to Snowie's house in the winter. You could come to London and be surprised as well in the depth of the Snow here as well. This is warm area of Canada and we usually don't get this much.

You may want to save some extra money for a Snowblower as well. They do pay for themselves over the years. Mines 28 years old and still running very strong.

A cow moose waits for traffic along the Kancamagus highway in Albany, N.H. The animal and it’s calf were licking the salt off the road as members of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation were trying to keep the falling snow from accumulating.
