GM's Extended warranty

I wouldn't get any extended warranty unless it was via the factory/brand directly.

I don't even consider them when I'm purchasing.
Now with 235K on my VW I'd be well past any extended coverage and would have spent the piece of mind money for nothing. At the time VW had a pitiful 2yr/40K comprehensive warranty with scheduled service (the only good part of it) and roadside included, but when the topic came up I wasn't interested. Hear too many stories of people not being covered on 'wear' parts or specific components.

Most people don't put on that many kilometers anyhow, and would trade their vehicles in at about that time.

At Hyundai when a $600 sensor went on my Accent at 120K (well past the POWERTRAIN warranty), the dealer automatically contacted Hyundai Auto Canada and replaced it under goodwill. I was impressed.

When I bought my used (2000) van last year the salesman asked me if I wanted an extended warranty. You would have laughed if you could have seen the look on his face when I asked him if it was free! No, no, no it's not free! It costs $1700. I just glared at him until he actually blushed!
(Geezuz. Just because you think I look stupid doesn't mean I am)

"Exactly, they wouldn't sell them if they weren't moneymakers for them."

Wow, I know you're a cop. I didn't realize you were a detective.

GTT.
Ext.warr. is like any other insurance. If you can collect off it,it's great, if you don't it is a waste of money. In my years as a warr. claims asjuster I have seen it go both ways.If you consider a secondary warr.co. Please read the fine print carefully and examine the contract before you sign. What is the deductible?, be prepared to live with the maintenance requirments and realize that only spontaneous breakdown is covered, wear and tear is not covered. Is there a cancellation and transfer clause.towing, rental car coverage etc.? Bear in mind that todays vehicles are of better quality then ever before making the purchase of an ext.warr.a long shot. Good luck!
