Winter tires for a Vancouver Taurus
« on: November 30, 2004, 07:29:22 pm »
Hi there,
I need winter tires for my Mother-in-Law's 1997 Taurus. She's 'concerned' about our terrible Vancouver winters .

I like the Kumho KW11, but they don't come in the exact 205/65-R15 size. Should I go with a 205/60-R15 or am I better off with a different tire? What would you suggest for a tire that'll see lots of rain, a bit of snow (she lives on the backside of Burnaby mountain up a steep driveway) and some clear pavement.

thanks!

Definitely stay with the stock size. KW11 has been discontinued in some sizes and has been replaced by the KW19. Availabiltiy is getting thin and many sizes are sold out across the country. You might consider going with an H-rated winter tire in Vancouver. Will offer you great winter performance with added stability and generally better longevity.

Hey Raskal, don't knock your mother in law.  For someone in her position and where she lives, it's pretty prudent for her to get snows for the winter.  Heck, I live here too and bought snow tires.  They should help if it ever frosts or ices over at least.  Think of it as insurance. :-)
