CHAMPIRO OWNER ON SEVERAL CARS
« on: November 30, 2004, 09:05:13 am »
I was just reading through some posts for the first time and read some archives of people asking about Champ GT tires.
I have driven them on a 2001 maxima, 2003 Maxima and now my 2004 TDI Jetta. My wife drove them on her 95 swift. A bunch of my friends who use snows also run Champ GT.  In all honestly, they are a pig in the snow. Great value, and honestly are not really loud at all at legal driving speeds. Handling is par, but I havn't used a snow tire that handled better then my all season/summer tires. So if you are in the market for a good value snow, go Champ GT. If you feel you need to spend more to get more, then do so. BTW, I drive from Toronto to Waterloo everyday, 5 days a week. Thats 264km's a day. I feel safe and confident with these snows. my 2 cents.

BTW, I'm not a huge fan of Steelcase. On more then one occassion they have not balanced my tires correctly. Not to say that they can't, I just ask for certain people in particular to do my install.

A "pig" in the snow?  Is that good or bad?

I've never seen a pig in snow.  In a blanket, yes.

Good to see nobody is anal here. ;) Anyhow, its a good thing. A great way to see if you have a good winter tire is to see how much snow collects in the grooves. Even with thick snow on the ground, the snow comes out easily, you can always see tread. With bad snow tires, the grooves are always filled. If the grooves are filled with snow, the tire becomes a slick. Anyhow, thats my 2 cents, actually 4 now.

Sorry for being retentive, and thanks for shedding some light on a lesser-known brand.

BTW, who are the best for balancing at Steelcase?

Jeeez, I'm forgeting at the moment. Just have one of the guys who has been there a while and doesnt look like a minor.  I'll ask my buddy tonight and post again.

Well some good news, at the present moment, The Toronto Star is doing a review/analysis on the champiros. I'm not sure when the final review will be released, but so far they have had nothing but positive things.
