Dip - is it a trick of the light, or does the car not have bolts for the rims?

I've always loved the shape of the Saab 900s - as I've said before, I find distinctive-looking cars very attractive.

Congrats!

Brigitte

Thanks for the pics and congrats on your new Saab

Brigitte, the wheels are glued to the hubs using an industrial strength adhesive -- a side-product of the Saab aircraft heritage. They had to abandon this design later, because people kept running out of solvent, which made changing a tire quite a challenge. There is a similar wheel design with lug holes, but it doesn't look as good.

Snowman, you can peek at this thread on Saabcentral :o)

Bullit, I know... I know... :P

5 stars from me Dip…looks like a very nice project you have going on here. Good to hear there is another car nut who wants to mod a car for their personal enjoyment.

WOW! I'm speechless. Had anyone noticed the black little flaps on the picture above? They are under the car, where the B-pillar meets the floor. The flaps are hard, not rubber, and I've never seen mudflaps in the middle of the body. It got got puzzled and I went through the manual. Here's what I found:

Flight Mode?.....way too cool. Subaru does not make fighter jets, perhaps Subaru should import engineering from Saab…….We are not worthy.

Like all other attached implements in the Saab catalog, the roof mounted weapon racks are made by Thule.

Guess that explains the 'fasten your seatbelt' sign INSIDE the car...

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our descent into Toronto.  Please fasten your seatbelts and return your Saab seat to an upright position.  As we plan to land on the 401 in rush-hour traffic, some turbulence is expected when crushing non-Swedish cars.  We would ask that you kindly refrain from peering out the windows, as to avoid any traumatizing images of blood, gore and mayhem.  Thank you for choosing SaabAir, and goodnight."

Haha... Nice one Brig.

But it is cool they thought to design a flap to protect volnerable components.

I didn't know about that alloy design either. Very unique.

Holy Christmas!  How did I miss this thread!?

Well done Dip!  Now you and Mitchell916 can work on your 900/9-3 upgrades together.  Just last night he was mentioning again about doing some power upgrades...  :-)

We were also talking about how his Saab is now the same age my BMW was when I traded it and has roughly the same mileage.  My climate control unit, power door locks and a few other less significant items had let go.  For him, the rear wiper washer jet has let go... that's it.  That's all.  The 3-series is a recommended Consumer's reports used car buy for reliability and yet Mitchell's Saab has had fewer quirks and problems than the Bimmer did.  I'd recommend a well-maintained Saab to anyone.

From the link to the thread you posted above for Snowman, I particularly like your quote about your torque wrench purchase...
230 ft-lbs of torque in your hand, it's like two Hondas, right?

Thanks Jeff. Does Mitchell know about this little forum? We've just organized a small group buy from a tuner in the US, and more will be on the way.

P.S. It's not a torque wrench, but an impact wrench. A power tool designed for ruining metal fasteners.

Dip, congratulation on the new purchase.  I'm sure with your technical wizardry you’ll have that thing pulling pavement up from the roads.

I do know about this forum, but don’t often get a chance to visit (which doesn’t mean that I don’t browse the threads from time to time).  I’ve been spending my evenings toiling with a SKUNKWORKS radar / IR absorbent body cladding for my 9-3.  With some luck ill have preliminary testing ready for the spring; with the 407 becoming a virtual race track, I want to ensure that “smokeyâ€? doesn’t have the one up on me.

Best of luck with this new to of yours,

Mitchell
