I'm looking at a couple of all-season tires for my 2001 Pathfinder:

1) Michelin Cross-Terrin
2) Yokohama Geolander HT-S (G051)

Any comments on what would be a better tire for everyday highway use, long lasting tread, and good in the snow?

Not looking for any offroad use or anything. Just looking for some comments and opinions!

Thanks in advance!

Both are good all-season tires. If you are looking at the Michelin also consider the LTX M/S. None of these tires would be considered good in snow. Compound is such that at colder temps the rubbers gets to hard and looses its capabilities. Example is a hockey puck...they freeze it before game time because there is less friction. Same thing is happening to all-season tires. Most noticeable under braking and emergency maneuvering situations. If you can park it in a snow storm the all-seasons will do you great...if not consider snows.

For snow add the BFG All-Terrain KO. Carries the severe winter designation and is a very good all around tire. They dont make your size, so you will have to sub the 245/70R16.

Thanks for the recommendations. Since I see that BFG's seem to be highly recommended, I started to look into them.  I found that the All-Terrains seem to be more of an off-road/mud type of tire and probably more than I need.

However, I found that the BFG Rugged Trail tires might be better for my use.  I'm thinking of going with the 255/70/16 tire size.

Any comments/opinions/suggestions/known problems with this tire?

Thanks again!

The Rugged Trail are the OEM tires on a lot of the Toyota trucks....very poor reviews on the Net (average rating of 2.4 out of 5 from 35 reviews at one tire forum; rating definition: 5 - Excellent, 4 - Very Good, 3 - Good, 2 - Satisfactory, 1 - Poor), especially poor performance in wet and snow conditions....both ratings were less than 2. Also, the treadwear was rated below 2.

At the same tire forum, the BFG All Terrain T/A KO got an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 from 292 reviews....with no rating less than 4 on any of the categories including snow or wet traction and tirewear.

Between the two all terrain tires, you gotta go with the BFG AT T/A KO. Once my Goodyear Wrangler AT/S need replacing, I will likely choose the BFG AT T/A KO.

Both the Michelin LTX A/T and LTX M/S have a rating of 4.2/5. Snow ratings for both were less than 4 (3.7 and 3.6, respectively). All other categories were above 4....47 and 133 reviews, respectively. However, the Michelin LTX A/S had a rating of only 3.2 including a snow rating of only 2.2.

BTW, the Michelin Cross Terrain got an overall customer rating of 3.9 on 106 reviews....3.6 on snow and 3.3 on treadwear, other ratings were over 4. Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S GO51 got an overall customer rating of 3.4 on 20 reviews. Snow, comfort and treadwear all got a rating of 3 each. Other ratings were between 3.2 and 4.3.

Thanks for the info, Dave!  This forum is awesome!  I'm really glad this was here for me to find info for new tires.

After everything I've learned, I think I'm going to go with the Michelin LTX M/S as they are more what I'm looking for (BFG All-Terrins are a bit too much for my needs).

Now I need to find some prices on tires and installation.  The prices on TireTrends are really good (best I can find) but from what I have learned they don't install.  So I need to shop around a bit.

Any suggestions on some good places to get tires installed and costs I can expect?

As usual, much thanks!

...I should have mentioned that I'm in Burnaby, so any suggestions in the greater Vancouver area would be nice!

I know there's places everywhere but I thought I'd ask anyways!  :-)
