the search function is not working on my 'puter, so I had to ask. Deflate to certain pressure? Store upright rather than flat?
thankyou.

I have been given advice to deflate to 15 psi and to store the tires upright. However, I just typically deflate to 15 psi and placed flat for ease of storage.

Why deflate to 15 psi?? I have never done that - just remove, store flat on layer of cardboard in garage. Have never had any problem. Interested to know the logic of deflating to 15 psi.

I have read that deflation to 10-15 psi is done to safely relax the bead of the tire. Deflation during tire storage has been typically recommended by the major tire manufacturers including Goodyear and Yokohama.

Davidy - thanks for the links - interesting. Other than leaving them at about 29-30 psi, I've been doing the other stuff.

The logic behind the deflation is to reduce the amount of oxidation taking place.  The internal pressure forces air, which is part oxygen, through the tire, increasing the internal oxidation.

Tires should be stored without touching anything - which means hanging by the wheels.  Next best is lying flat, bead to bead, with a spacer in between the wheels so the tires aren't touching each other.

If you can manage a bag, that's better, if the bag is filled with nirogen, better still.  If you can get them to a cool, dry, dark place away from electric motors and other sources of ozone, good!

Hope this helps.

..And a Kraftmatic adjustable bed for those with STIFF sidewalls..!!!!......

Don't the manufactures who should be in the know
just wrap them in plastic, store them like do-nuts
and ship them any which way and the stores have them up/down/sideways anywhere they can find the space.Their finished in 4/5 years for heavens sake..no need fer OCD Cryogenics or life support systems....
