Mazda 6 with 5spd Manual trans + GFX Package.

Better quality, more reliable, and sporty in nature not just name.

I also prefer the Mazda 6 for the same reasons Bob Duh Fly as pointed out. At 3172 lbs the 6 will be more nimble than the 3767 lb porky 300. The rwd driveline is appealing…..but not enough to tip the scales in its favor.

Depends what he's after, sport or luxury.  I'd say the 300 is more luxurious.

I think they are quite different cars so it really depends on what turns his crank. Personally I'd take the Mazda but I can see why some might favor the 300. Personal call by him.

Why the dissparate choices..if he is that unsure of what he wants....New BIG styled rear drive 300 cruiser OR snappy smaller front drive maybe he should cast his net over a much larger sampling.Sounds like he doesn't really know what he really wants/needs and is buying into 2 highly hyped new boys in town,so to speak.Have him do some homework and sit in and test drive at least a dozen varied vehicles in that price range...he may surprise himself.....just a thought...

5 stars Saffy.

These cars are Apples and Oranges.
Lots of merits in both camps, but different animals altogether.

I also give you a 5 for that Saffi as anybody buying to-day should look at the whole marketplace to see what they can fill their needs with. Personally of the 2 the man is looking at I would choose the 300 due to its larger size and carrying capacity.

The Mazda 6 would be my pick. But there would be some other fun-to-drive cars in this price range(with 4-cylinder engines though).

Coming from a Jetta, would he find himself lost in the interior space or find the larger mass of the 300 hard to adjust to?

I like the 300 and 6 for separate reasons, as already said. Everytime I see a 300 I have a hard time believing it's only $30,000, while the Mazda can be had at an attractive price for a nice overall pacakage.

Of the two, unless I needed the hatch/wagon I'd go for the Accord or TSX ;)  Larger interior than the 6 in the Accord, and a nice blend between German feel and Japanese dependability with that 240hp engine at $29,500. The TSX is very light and agile feeling, with superb interior finish, but the auto might sap some power. That, and it's $34,500.

If he goes for the 300, I'd spec the Signiture Series:

- W.P. Chrysler Signature Series badges
- Unique two-tone leather-trimmed seats
- 17 inch chrome clad wheels
- MSRP for Signature Series package is $760.

Maybe he's only considering looks, Mazda 6 for me.

If he is considering looks, did he look at a Volvo S40? A barebones model start at 29995 but it does get pretty pricey. It's also about the same size as the Jetta. However, it does have less power and it's only a 5 cylinder. Also, it's not as well-equiped.

Here's my 2.3 cents worth. Buy the 6 if he wants to hide in a mediocre looking sedan or buy the 300 if you want to stand out from the crowd. 300 Hemi C if you want to stand out from the crowd, then leave them behind at a whim. My choice, why follow everyone else?

as soon as my coworker jumped into my new GC he started to ask me about the engine...that it sounded really peppy and powerful and that he loved that V8 sound....after sometime he asked me to drive it...he fell for it!!!! (not my GC as he is not into the driving dynamic of SUVs at all).
Ok after that we went through long hours of testing:

Honda Accord
Acura TSX
Toyota Camry
Nissan Maxima
Nissan Altima
Mazda 6
VW Jetta
VW Passat
Volvo S40
Ford 500
Dodge Magnum
Chrsler 300

What did he buy?
he got an exccelent deal in 300 Hemi C silver...pics will be posted soon!!
