Tiretrends - don't really care about the customer
« on: November 26, 2004, 02:28:16 pm »
Finally got my $3000+ order of winter tires from tire trends (after waiting too long, lost emails (by them) and out of stock items). They shipped the wrong size wheel nuts and are now not willing to fix it. The OEM on the cars are 21mm, they shipped 19mm and the response is to buy a different size lug wrench or continue to use the OEM nuts. I'm not in favour of spending more money for a new lug wrench or putting my summer lug nuts on during the winter so that they can be ruined.

With customer service like that, i'll take my business to someone else next time.

Hold on a second. First off we appreciate your business! FYI... We include these lug nuts for no charge, where many companies will charge you extra. The nuts we supply are a 3/4 head, which is standard for after market lug nuts. You can of course use your stock lug nuts if you prefer to have the stock hex size.  Using our hardware is optional and if you prefer your stock hex size just keep our free nuts as spares. We supply a lot of things for no charge, but we cant also provide you with the tools to do the installation.

Providing lug nuts with our winter packages is something new for this year. Last year we didn't include any lug nuts with our winter packages at all. This is something we have changed because we felt our customers should get new hardware with their packages.

Not everyone decides to install their packages themselves. However, if you do, you will require the proper tools. I dont think it is up to us to also provide the tools for no charge.

I'm not too sure I completely understand the problem(s).

The supplied lug nuts fit the bolts and are correct for the new rims, it's just the size of the wrench that is used to tighten them that is different from the OEM?

You ordered $3000+ worth of tires and you didn't get what you ordered?

You had to wait too long?  What is the definition of too long?  When did you place the order and when did you get it?

Out of stock items?  Which items were out of stock and is that why you had to wait?

If it's none of my business just say so but heck I'm curious now!

Including something and calling it a "bonus" isn't much of a bonus if I can't USE it. It would be like you telling me that the rims/tires come balanced but the balancing is wrong. Again, it's a bonus since I didn't pay extra for it but it's no use to me if it's wrong (just for the record, i'm not saying that the tires are actually balanced wrong).

If i'm going to order from you and as a "bonus", you give me new lug nuts (something that I may have considered when making my purchase and may have swayed my decision to buying from you), I expect to get something that will work with my OEM equipment.

A lug nut that doesn't work with my lug wrench is not much use to me when i'm 100km from nowhere with a flat tire.

This has nothing to do with having the proper tools to install the package, I have these in my tool box, but my car does not have what is required to use what I was sent.

The "free" lug wrench that comes with all cars is a POS..buy a cross-shaped one with several sizes ..cost a few bucks only and you will have something that can be used on any lugs and wont leave you stranded as those little one size 6 inch toys you so love.....whining makes you look petty..get a Valve adjustment and enjoy your $3,000 dollar top of the line package you POOR boy...
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

I must say, every car and every set of lugs I've ever bought have been different.  I agree with Saf (its amazing when I understand him ).  I have the X shape lug wrench from canuck tire as it works better at all sizes.  Other option is to carry the correct size socket.

I don't believe both sides have handled this well in public - just call each other and figure it out for $^%*#^% sake.

I have a x shaped lug wrench too. I don't recall paying too much..maybe twenty bucks. Pretty small potatoes when you are talking about a $3K purchase. Pretty petty comments from Valve on this....much ado about nothing.

That's my feeling also - I think Valve is making a lot of noise w little reason. Agree that the problem should be handled by the 2 parties off-line.

I have nothing but praise for Tiretrends……they will be selling me a new set of S-03’s in March.
OEM lug wrench? I have never used one. Snap-on for me.

Put the Winter Boots on Rut Ro this morning….I guess I will need new summer grippies in the spring. My fronts are down to the limit this summer (pic2) and the rears are close (pic1).

It doesn't matter if you spent 3K or $50.  A good business with good work ethic and good people will treat you the same.  I firmly believe that TireTrends is one of those companies.  It's unfortunate that the free lug nuts don't fit your OEM wrench....but if you have the proper wrench to put them on with....WHAT'S YOUR BEEF?  Would it have been better if TireTrends didn't even ship the nuts to you in the first place?  Maybe then you won't have anything to complain about.

Suck it up buttercup.

YOU GOT SOMETHING FOR FREE, if it doesn't work, BOOO HOOO. The fact still remains that you got something for free. Would you like them to install your wheels on the car for you too after?

Including something that you can't use is the same as you not getting it at all in the first place. Why are you complaining since it was free?

i don't think your having a good go at ruining tiretrends reputation because you are a spoiled princess.

BTW, what kind of rim and tire combo costs 3k? Is that with tax and shipping?

I am sure Tiretrends will send you the right sized wheel nuts if you were to ask them nicely. I doubt very much they did this to you on purpose as its of NO Benefit to them to do so. The person doing the shipping made a mistake thats all but you should have a good 4 way wrench as well. I have a lot Snap-On and Mac tools but the 4 way is still very handy.

Snowy, you must run some pretty harsh negative camber!  That tire wear is quite something - suggests lots of fun driving ...

Yep…there are few 270 Deg. corner off/on ramps where I have deposited some marbles in Sudbury. Most are on high speed twisties on Highway 144.

I was most disappointed with my RE-92’s this afternoon. Before I took the summer combo I went around a few corners and experienced some minor drifting. It was 2 deg. C and the roads were wet from flurries. This afternoon I go out with the 92’s and almost loose it around the same corner with the same conditions…..could the worn out S0-3’s be better than the crappy 92’s in this low temp. conditions?

If Canadian Tire cross wrench for $20 is too expensinve for you, Walmart sells cross wrenches for 12 bucks!

That'll solve that problem
