Best TOY Evaaaa!

I got an IQue 3600 off e-bay.  With our great dollar, I paid $520 shipped.  Would have cost me $680 in Canada!

What an awesome Unit, when you go off course it recalculates in seconds.  Nice integration with address book, easy to find stuff and it plays MP3's.

Get this....

FM transmiter to play the voice prompts through my car speakers.  I can play MP3's with the Unit while get trip instructions.  So I listen to the music, about 1 sec before the next GPS update the unit slowly lowers the volume of the music, it prompts you about your turn or whatever is coming up, then it slowly raises the volume back up!

All through the car speakers!  Just like an integrated system AWESOME!!

Cool stuff.  Another converted to digital maps.  How about some pics?  Does it use DVD maps?  Is there a touch screen?  Voice recognition control?

Nice, James.

Pics?  Sheesh.  Use your imagination.  Picture its slender lines and shimmering, boldly angular face. Imaging the touch of its firm, yet yeilding buttons placed exactly where nature intended.  Hear the soft tones as it speaks to you, gently guiding you to your promised land.

Or....look it up on Ebay.

I'm too lazy to shrink down pics.  Here is a 3D view from Garmin:
http://www.garmin.com/products/iQue3600/

It's a female voice, not very sexy unless you like the deeper female range, it's not a bad voice at all though.

It's touch screen, as it's a palm based machine, but no voice recognition, it's not really needed I don't think.

It has tons of info, all CD based loaded onto the PC than onto the memory card.  I need to get a bigger card to put more maps, but I have enough room for anywhere I might travel by car as well as a few hours of MP3's.  I'm looking at getting a 1gig mem stick which would be WAY more than I would ever require.

Integration with the address book is wicked, just click on an appointment like a palm pilot and it will come up with the information, you can then select the person's name and get their address and it will start directing you there from your current location.

You can preview the map route as well as a turn by turn preview.

Also found out my impreza speedo is off, 60km/h is really 65km/h... I better watch out for citypig!

Oh also on that webpage you can watch a little video (commercial) for the unit.  It is as great as it looks in the commercial and 100 times more!

How about the battery life? Playing and sending MP3s thru FM radio... that uses a lot of batteries usually. And does the screen turn off after a while?

It really seems like a great product, if I had $500 US to spend, it certainly would be a great way to do so!!

Well I've been playing MP3's all day.

Doesn't matter in the car, it runs off the lighter socket :-)

Awesomely COOL GPS James!

My GPS unit is a PocketPC-based PDA (Dell Axim5) with Compactflash GSP and external antenna and using Pocket Streets only.

I have no FM transmitter nor girl's voice.  What sucks even more is I have to open and close different maps whenever my GPS position goes out of bounds of the currently loaded map.  Like when I travelled to Elliot Lake last week (550kms) I have in my PDA 6 small maps that I had to open and close while driving

I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THESE!!!

If you play through your car speakers, don't you lose hearing the radio?

Ray, yes and no.  I tune to the GPS which also plays MP3's :-)  So I have it loaded with a bunch of MP3 songs and it just plays them in loop when I get the big CF card I can get about 300 songs or so on there, and it will play them and mute the music for the GPS commands.

Then if I get bored of the songs I'll just switch them out.

I got myself a 64SD card today for $5 so I can get more songs now :-)

Haha no way.

I found out (by accident after deleting the wrong thing) I can get voice prompts in English, French, German, Spanish etc etc etc hehe that can be fun.

I'm going to change it to a sultry English UK version instead of the american woman I had before!
