Pirelli Winter Carving Vs. Hercules Polar Trax
« on: November 15, 2004, 04:19:58 pm »
Which Winter Tire is better for a 2001 Jetta - 195/65/R15 - in the Toronto area: Pirelli Winter Carving or Hercules Polar trax (i've not heard of Hercules Brand before). I only drive about 100km a week and I can afford both but I hate to spend money needlessly.

Also, the Tire distributor did not recommend Blizzaks but didn't explain why. Was he right? If I can/should buy Blizzaks, are they better than the pirelli or hercules?

Thanks in advance for the advice

Hey, hope I can help I installed tires for acouple years before I was a mecanic. I have a 1993 Jetta and just put Pirelli Winter Carvings on it and I love them. They are really quiet and good for city driving because they evacuate slush and water extremley well which is what is left pretty much in the city after snowfall. They are also great for snow and ice they have a real aggresive tread design that eats through snow and the small lines that go sideways are great for the ice. Another good thing is the tread wear is really low compared to Blizzaks, which is maybe why they weren't recommended. Blizzaks rubber uses up really fast on asphalt they are made more for a lot of snow on the road like in the country not the city.

Anyway hope it helps if anything contact me.
