Civic LX Automatic won't start
« on: November 15, 2004, 02:27:54 am »
Well it's only happened a couple of times. But my '94 Honda Civic LX has; upon turning the ignition, just been dead in terms of the engine doing anything.  I don't believe it's battery because everything is good, lights, radio etc. and all seems fine.  If I leave it a little while, perhaps roll it in neutral a bit, then try it, it'll start fine and then runs like a dream. So that seems to me that it's not battery or starter.  Any ideas?  Thanks

A tired solinoid or worn spot on the starter or flywheel will cause this type of problem. It hangs up in this one position until you move the car. Recheck the starter and the brushs in it as well. Even the bendix spring may be getting tired.

Check the battery no matter what!  Check the fluid and wirebrush the connections and reclamp to be sure.  Also check that the big fat ground wire is in good condition leading from the batery.  Check the positive cable as well.  Check the charge on the battery as I have lights etc. work and no cranking avail despite all that.  It may be a loose connection.  Rolling the car in N will not do a single thing as nothing will change poisition. (starter stays in place and the flywheel is attached to the crank??? now if you try to bump start it that's a different matter) Start with the basics and check each connection and the role it plays in starting your car.

Good luck
I miss my motorcycle!

Faulty neutral switch maybe? Or is this a standard transmission?
