1997 Kia Sportage

Anyone here have a 1997 Kia Sportage. I'm trying to find out how to get an engine code from the computer. The check engine light is blining and the truck started running very rough, kind of like when you get water in the gas. I put dry gas in the tank and run the gas out and refilled with fresh gas, but still no good. Can anyone tell me which pins to jump out to get the code? Thanks.

You may try disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds to reset the computer.  This may sent it into a safe mode and it will reevaluate its codes.  It may also solve the problem but that's a long shot.
I miss my motorcycle!

Ericthejet,
just tried that and it still runs lousy and the check engine light still blinks. Thanks, I will keep at it. I have an old corvette and I just jump out two wires in the computer check system and it makes the check engine light blink out a code, this is what I'm trying to do with this piece of junk.

I would also advise checking most of the connections between various sensors under the hood while you try and get to the bottom of this issue.  ( unplug, check and clean, replug )  This is also a long shot but you never know what you may find.  I have done this in thge past to my civic but those connections are triple sealed and I doubt dirt will ever get in.  I use a quality contact cleaner if and when I see dirt.

Timing OK, belt or chain will answer that one.  Air filter and fuel filter?  Cap and rotor if equipped?  Ign. wires clean and up to scratch?  I would check all these basic systems while under the hood as well.  Or just try a few wild "google" searches.  "my 97 Kia is....... and see if anything comes back online.
Bonne chance
