Knocking sound
« on: November 13, 2004, 06:33:00 am »
Hi guys... I own a 2001 Grand Caravan. I bought it in august 2003. Great van except for 1 irritating problem. It has a knock on the front end when I hit a pot hole, it's a kind of knock like if it was metal to metal. I brought it in and I got a bill for a couple of hundred $$$, and thge knock is still there. Any ideas???

What did they replace for the money you spent?

They are trying to eliminate the what if's from the sounds of it and we can all guess until the cows come home.

So help us out and let's see what we can do to help.

They replaced the 2 stabilizer links ( I think that's what there called) a ball joint and another part that I'm not sure of. Somebody was telling me they had the same problems with his van and had the same parts changed with no effects. He also mentioned rubbers of some kind, but I wasn't able to find out anymore... moved out of town since.

Thanks

Gilles

This sounds a little crazy, but if it doesn't do it when you hit a pot hole on the left side, then that would point to something different on the right side.

What they replaced would be the first line of attack, but the metal to metal sound you mention makes it sound like a bump stop might be missing. Those are rubber used to help absorb the shock from the bump.

Others will be along as the day progresses and have opinions too. Welcome to our world.

Inco: Thanks for your help. That might just what's missing. Never heard of this sight before but was surfing the net to see if I could educate myself on the matter before going back to a shop when I stumbled accross this sight. Thanks again and I sure will be back form time to time... Very interesting site.

I will venture a guess that the frt sway bar bushing are the cause of the noise. The links and the bushings on this van make a sound that is almost the same when they are worn out. Sometimes it can be the links and the bushings giving grief.
