Hot and cold steering
« on: November 09, 2004, 11:34:15 am »
My 96 Civic hb steers heavy in colder weather and then without warning turns into a one finger driver.  It's almost like a second ps pump has been turned on.  This condition comes and goes at random but only happens during the winter.

Any thoughts?
I miss my motorcycle!

How does it steer when it is "normal"?

Ericthejet Welcome to the Forum, when was the last time you checked your power steering fluid resevoir. If the fluid is low it will react similar and another possible problem may be the steering rack is getting tired. How many Miles on this car?

150000k's  Fluid good 60 days ago, no leaks etc.  Steering effort is typical IMO.  My friends civic feels the same but does not go to "caddy" mode as I call it.  I mean it gets so light I can use only one finger on the wheel.  I also have remarked a slight"click" noise from behind the/in the steering column when this occurs, not to open the can o worms any futher.  It is no big deal but my curosity has peaked.

Thanks
