Need Advice regarding selling/retaining
« on: November 07, 2004, 12:55:58 pm »
Hi All,
I have a civic 99 with 55K miles in california. I am moving to ottawa in dec. I need advice should I sell it it california ( i will get get 6-6.5K US$) or move it to ottawa. This car does not ABS and I do not have any winter driving experience except for driving with tire chains few times.

What will be approx. price of similar cars in ottawa?

TIA,

goyal

Being a US vehicle, I don't think a lot of people would be interested in purchasing it...considering there's a million Canadian Civics with DRL and ABS around.

You might have to convert it to meet some of our guidelines.  I'm not sure how that works.  I know if you are a US citizen you can bring your car, but I think after X amount of time (6 months or 1 year) you have to comply with our laws, but I could be wrong.  Which means you would have to convert it to have daytime running lights, change the dash display to Km/h etc, and get a safety.

You should check into this at www.mto.gov.on.ca this should help you on your decision.

If you can get $6k used for that civic, you could guy something a little newer here I believe.

$9-10K Candian will get the same car here. So, you're "even." Don't bother with the hassle of bringing a car across the border.  If you wish to sell it, US cars are not popular here.
No place I'd rather be...

Ya, especially if it voted for George Dubya.

Political opinions aside, I hope you enjoy Ottawa.  Depending on where in California you currently reside, the transition to living in Ottawa may or may not be that difficult.  Ottawa tends to get a brutal combination of snow and bitter cold.  If you are already used to snow, then you're already 1/2 way there!

Welcome to the forum, and soon to be welcome to Canada...eh!

Ok I'll try posting this for the 3rd time!

He should find people more friendly in ottawa, but he is coming in DECEMBRRRRRRRRRr

Which should make it a major change.

Would a 99 Civic from California have a dual mph/km dash display or a block heater for Ottawa winters?

It may be hard to sell the Civic in Canada when it arrives, bumper laws may be a drawback if it does not meet Canadian specifications.

Now I think it will be better to sell it in US.
