I didn't pay anything of the sort so I guess we don't have that around these parts of the prairies.

I didn't pay a gas tax here in Quebec either. Only tire tax... something like 4$ a piece lol

Mark - OK, thanks for the reply. No offense I trust, I wasn't meaning to imply you were pushing your ideas on him.

Gas tax on the purchase? - I'm not aware of that in BC but haven't bought a gas guzzler lately.

Well, ya, I mean a "new" gas guzzler; however the amount of driving I do in the Bullitt, it's not a big issue. I did get 27.7 MPG in it on the drive from Calgary to Kelowna back in August. But, around town, and with every stop light/sign a staging lane, the mileage suffers a "bit"!!!! Bbbwwwaaaahhhh, , if you get my drift.

1996 Chrysler LHS with 128K in good shape is probably wholesale a $3.5K vehicle -  he did good to get what he got.  My experience with a 1997 Intrepid was stellar leading me to believe that these cars are a lot better than people give the credit for as long as they were maintained.

Selecttrac II?  I thought I saw a base model GC with no 2WD selector - this confirms it. I've heard a couple nightmare stories about repair $$$$ of the Quadratrac (I & II).  Selectrac works well and is much more durable.

The 4.7 is a better choice.  A modern engine compared to the 4.0l which is a 15 year old  revision of an engine that dates back to the 60's.  The 4.0 is durable but very harsh.  Tell hime to maintain it by the book and he should be okay.  115K warranty should leave him covered.

And to make matters worse, my summer driving priviledges (ie. full insurance) expire on Nov 24 so I better get at it, eh? After that it's in the garage for a few months. And just how in blazes am I supposed to do all this tire shreading stuff and still take pictures. Maybe it's all a hoax, I really don't have the car at all; maybe I took a picture of a buddy's on his driveway? Lots of unknowns out there besides Dubya's 2nd term as the most Powerful Man on Earth - scary times.

I would have voted for Saffi if I had know he was running. Should have advertised in the back of the Newspaper or something. Job Wanted ads even.

minkees
Here we come
Here we come
Here we come, walkin'
Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Ev'ry one we meet.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy fighting
we know you’ll come round

We go wherever we want to,
do what we like to do
We don't have time to get restless,
There's always something new.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy fighting
we know you’ll come round

We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the Bush administration,
And we've got something to say.

Any time, Or anywhere,
Just look over your shoulder
Guess who'll be standing there

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy fighting
we know you’ll come round

(break)

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy fighting
we know you’ll come round

We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the Bush administration,
And we've got something to say.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees,
You never know where we'll be found.
so you'd better get ready,
We coming to take you down.

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
[repeat and fade]

Mark as u might know i drive a 01 GC limited, its been a very realible SUV since I bought it with minor problems until the moment (normal maintenance).
My GC has the QuadraDrive and its fantastic to see how capable this system is.
Your father's new GC probally has the QuadraTrac I, here are the specs:

Quadra-Trac I®(1): This lightweight system offers improved traction.

On-demand system
4-high (no low range)
Includes brake traction control for torque biasing
Full-time 4WD means there's no shifting required
Standard with the 3.7-litre V6 engine

I am sure he will be very happy with his new SUV and when the first snowfall happens he will understand why GC are recognized as the best 4wd system on the market.

Multi - thanks for the info.  The gear selector has only 4 hi and 4 lo.  It is labelled inside as some version of Select Trac - not quadra drive - which as I understand includes a Vari-Loc system (locking differential I suppose?)

Anyway, he's picked it up today, and I'm going over to see it.  I also think he will be happy.  He got a pretty good deal (IMHO) on both the GC and his trade.  Reliability will be what it is.  Warranty will take care of the big stuff.  And we'll keep an eye on the electronics within the first 3 years, to see if any extension of warranty is needed then.

Thanks all!
