Police Cruisers from DC?

Do you guys think since DC has gone rear wheel drive on the 300 that they will offer a police cruiser?  I think that would be a cool cruiser!

There are some forces in the states that have been usesing the Intrepid for a while but the Crown Vic was a better machine for the job. This will be even better yet.

Police officers don't like FWD that's why we see less and less Impalas.  But for a chase I think the Impalas were faster and handled better.

I do believe you are right on that as the 3.8 is hard to outrun and the OPP here in Ontario liked them a lot.

Huh? I don't know who you guys are talking to but not many officers I know (from Hamilton, OPP and Niagara) prefer the Impala over the CV. It's not as fast, it's smaller, the brake fade is a safety issue and it's not as reliable. Who does like it? The senior guys, because it's more comfortable to "relax" in. Oh, and it is MUCH better in the smow...That one I'll give it credit for.

One vivid example of this is a chase that our service had with a Dodge Neon this spring. It started in the city (Hamilton), hit the QEW and was called off by the OPP (they joined in and took the wrong car's tires out with a spike belt) as they hit Toronto. The Neon was OUTRUNNING the Impalas. The only guys that could keep up were in the CVs. The Impalas crap out at 182 km/h not matter how hard you stand on that gas pedal. The OPPs that I know who do highway patrol much prefer the CV. Going from 0 to 140km/h is much faster with that 4.6.

We don't need speed and good brakes often, but when we do we REALLY need it!
Everyone hates us until they need us.

So City, your saying if I'm every in Hamilton with a Impala on my a$$ I should just downshift to 3rd and say baaaaaaabuy, as I can hit 182km/h in 4th gear  and STILL take off ramps at BIG speed. hahaha

The mighty Police Interceptor….WTF! Ominous, hulking sedans armed with specialized "police packages," a mysterious collection of carefully selected high-performance equipment designed to reel in any unsuspecting speeder…..Fack Me…you poor Bastards City.

The CV can putt along 1320 ft. in 15.72 seconds at 88.14 mph….My Highlander would offer a serious challenge. The Impala is worse…. 17.00 seconds at 84 mph.

City calling for backup while trying to hunt down an Echo leaving the Wal-Mart parking lot….One Adam 12…

We have radios and spike belts...as long as we don't get the OPP involved (see first post) we do just fine. We had a helicopter for a year trial and they discontinued it. It's better to let the criminals get away than to jack up the police budget.

You get 5 Snowy...I should have given you only a four though since we don't wear out hats in the car and I have brown hair. But the rest is fairly accurate...

The NB Highway patrol (when they still existed) had an Impala with an LS6 (454 cu in, ~450HP) in it. THAT caused more than a few surprised looks when it caught up with folks that decided to flee rather than accept a speeding ticket.

I have seen a few Crown Vics that could pull 12s in the quarter running Vortech blowers. I don’t know why, but then again I never really understood the Impala SS either.

We've got a helicopter in Edmonton as well.  IIRC, the public raised the money to buy it and city council approved a budget increase to operate it.  It's very quiet.  I hear it purring over the house in the wee hours every now and then and I wonder..."Just how many people did I cut off on the drive home tonight?"

A chopper would put an end to a lot of pursuits and be able to follow a lot of suspects. Its also beneficial from an officer safety point of view. When you go tearing after someone on foot through alleys and backyards it's easy to loose sight of where you are. If a chopper is in the area they have a better chance to find you.

But it's all about money. Making taxpayers and officers safe is not a priority but building "affordable housing" and paying out welfare is. But don't get me started. Oh wait, I already did.

London had a chopper for a year test program, they didn't renew it at the end of the term. Seems about the only Crook they caught was the Chief of Police Dipping into his Expense account and Druken parties at his house. I agree with City on the safety Issues's as I am sure he is right on these matters. Unfortunate Failure in London.
