Even if it's an optioned convertible, it's a pretty healthy markup, but if you wanted one ASAP...

They can get pricey. My coupe was $21,500 before freight and taxes (had enough options, but certainly not all), and the convertible would be $25,000! But there's few other convertibles at that price on the market, and none that would get you the attention the Smart would at the moment.

That's a lot of money to pay to get attention and nothing much more.  Retarded if you ask me.

I could by a $500 beater, drive to the Wal-Mart parking lot and set it on fire.  That would give me lots of attention.

$30K for a Smart is about 2X too much.
No place I'd rather be...

Considered it's about as useful as a golf cart, I wouldn't even pay 15000$ for a Smart.

Mercedes crammed way too much technology into this thing... this has caused the MRSP to be way too high for what it is and what it can do.

A Echo Hatch is more pratical, uses just a little more fuel, will most likely be much more reliable, and can be had for 17-18k$ well loaded.

Hey, I think it's overpriced as well. No arguing there.

But depends what you're using it for too. Someone in the city might like the ultrasmall dimensions/maneuverability , attention, Benz dealership experience, convertible top, awesome mileage, and somewhat exclusivity (since not many people will spring for one).

I know my mom loves the thing. Never seen her so excited over a car, much less tell others about it so enthusiastically. Mind you, purely from outward appearances: "It's sooooooooooooo cuteeee"! And it is rather unique. It's not just that it's overpriced, it's that it doesn't offer enough space or utility for many people, so it will remain pretty much a promo, city, chic, or environmentalist's car. That's a big part of it's appeal right there.

But for my $30G, it's definitely not worth it - convertible or not. At $18G for what I wanted versus $21.5G, I'd probably be keeping my order for one.

Hmmmm... wonder if I could make a quick buck in Auto Trader?..

I would even get a VW Golf before this thing. For 30K, there are lots of choices. Honda Accord EX-L, Saab 9-2X Linear, Volvo S40, Mazda6 GT-I4, and that list goes on and on...
