That took kind of a nasty turn, there MD, eh?

That would be oversteer, I hope.

Or another way - oversteer is what happens when I have the traction control off and hammer the Bullitt in a corner. Wowie !! Hang on....Most fun you can have with your pants on....

You had better have your pants on when you're doing that.  Those seats just don't look grippy enough otherwise. Oh oh, I've got some lingering imagery that will take too long to subside.

Oh man...I can hear Saff coming now.

Inducing oversteer in an AWD car when you mash the throttle in a corner is one of the best perks of an AWD car.

I found the Mazda 6 very twitchy and it also had a tendency to more oversteer (versus the usual total understeer by most soft suspension FWDs)

it was really strange. It's like it was a FWD, but it turned it really tightly.

A front engine front wheel drive car oversteering?  Unless you're pulling the handbrake...I just can't see that.  Odd indeed.

I think I just wasn't going fast enough to cause understeer.

At the speeds I reached in my current car (old old Corolla), I'd hear my tires screech as if I was drifting... but all I'm doing is cornering (and slightly understeering). And all at speed limit! haha

I'm sure it would understeer, but before you hit the breaking point, I think the car is tuned to tuck in and follow through (not really oversteer, I guess)

Oversteer in a FWD car isn't unheard of. My old dearly departed Escort GT used to snap into oversteer if you lifted too suddenly in corners. I found this out on a decreasing radius off camber corner between Hillsborough and Moncton. Damn near lost her her that day, the wife I mean!

It was however the only FWD car I have ever driven that would do that. Most just plow, then plow some more.

Anyone read the Legacy review on the main page?

Apparantly the review found the FWD Mazda 6 a very formidiable competitor.

Family cars focused on driving dynamics.. aint that somethin to think about. Are you listenin' Honda?

Mazdas are generally known for capable handlers. So I'm glad the 6 has not been dumbed down like most fwd family sedans.
FWDs can be induced for oversteer. It's in the suspension bits. Ultra thick sway bars, stiff rear spring rates, low rear tire pressure... add a high speed turn, jerk the steering wheel to induce a Scandinavian flick and you can get the tail out. However generally they are harder as compared to RWD and AWD. It's all about tossing the weight around 4 corners.

I think thats called the Acura TSX. (Called Honda Accord everywhere but North America)

Anyways I dont get it...
Why is the TSX describe as good value (mostly)...
but the mazda6 isn't...(even with a base price of 10k less)
Appearance-wise (interior and exterior they are almost identical)

Looks like a name can make all the difference.

Batch5, its all about perceived value, which both
Honda,Nissan and Toyota have done a brilliant job of in the North American market.
Develop an entry level line up of luxury vehicles and call it by another name Acura/Lexus/Infiniti.
Charge a premium and voila, you have Americans and Canadians spending thousands of dollars more
for the same variant, albeit with some refinements.

Batch5 you are not the only one asking this question, my European pals don;t get it either.

Not that there is anything wrong with mfgs marketing the product this way.Cause it works
in NA!!

lol to S60's post.

I'll take a Mazda 6i, simply because it's more affordable.
