Ddoes anyone know if there is any difference in reliability or performance with the larger hood scoop on the new style WRX or is the old one just as efficient being smaller?

well all turbochargers love air so i guess its functional? not sure though, cuz some t-charged cars don't have it.

They are both functional I am pretty sure...  But it is if the air coming through the bigger scoop is more effective?

How bad is the basic design if the air requirements require a whale mouth on the hood AND a WHALE TAIL on the trunk..has to be profiling to LOOK like the Rally cars...NON!!???

The WRX scoops are functional.  The old Impreza RS scoops were the looks only ones.

Filter?...WTF are you talking about X?....please STFU!. The air to air intercooler requires a larger amount of air to dissipate the intake heat absorbed though the turbo charger. I understand (sorry no link to data) that at high speed the earlier hood scoop designs did not function properly as air was defected over the scoop. The updated WRX’s have a much higher hood scoop profile. There is also a side vent which directs air onto the stock turbo heat shield. http://rutro.photostep.com/image/197992776
I have installed a STi hood scoop to capture more air for the intercooler and engine bay. The STi JDM hood scoop is larger than the stock version on my ’02 WRX.

I have also installed a Speed Monkee heat shield to direct the addition air flow onto the turbo for additional cooling. This Chimney shield will also allow for radiant heat for the turbo to vent thought he hood scoop during idle and reduce the heat soak by the top mount intercooler.

I believe even with the 02 hood scoop there is a section that sends air to the turbo heat shield.  
I don't believe the 04's hood scoops are the same unit as the STi's. You can stuff a small infant to that thing!

echo? where! those sedans remind me of a bubble on wheels. I dislike the center guages too. bleh

As for the WRX, dont they have a hoodscoop or something somewhere... maybe on the hood?  

j/k    So what do you do during the winter when covered in snow? Should you keep the area clear of snow?

He's not the only one to say it.  IN fact, I recall seeing on one of the Subie forums last year that someone pulled off the "SUBARU" from the back and replaced it with "ECHO" as sort of a reverse 'ricer' kind of thing.  I thought it was hilarious -- so did many others.

My dream Subie might be a "plain jane" narrow fendered Impreza with an STi driveline.  I love shocking people.  When I had the C36, the first thing I did was pull the emblems.

The "factory" sleeper award has to go to Subaru for the Forester Turbo.  A mini-ute that can rip to 60mph in under 6 secs?  HAHAHAHAHA!  Love it!

Yeah, when that Forester came out I was thinking "what the heck is that thing?". I thought it rather ugly, especially with those layered rear lights with the amber on top.

Since then I've really warmed to it.

And then the 2nd gen came out and I did a Subaru Canada autocross/off-road event introducing the car to dealership staff, and man could that thing handle well all things considered.  

And then the turbo. Well, now I just love the thing!

Exactly as you say... a $36K sleeper that performs brilliantly, with that nifty roof, while tackling whatever climate, bringing all you need, and lookin' darn sharp all the while. Improve the interior bits a little and sign me up!

the Forester XT is a nice buy. very sleeper-ish. Hate to be a 350Z owner to be smoked by a Forester that can also carry bags and bags of topsoil.
