I have never bought a new vehicle before and I usually keep cars for extended periods, At one time had an 83 BMW 320i with 450,000 km, granted I had only put on 250,000 km, and it still got 35 MPG, til it died in a car accident. I Currently drive a 99 silverado extendedcab, gas prices killing me as have put on 100,000 km in 2 years.

Onto the Jetta, base is 26900 for a manual plus wanted loaded with sunroof 1015, Side curtain protection 220 and ESP 430, was also told 1440 for deliver = $30005  Is 1440 for delivery a little high?  What should one pay?  I live in interior of BC and will be seriously looking within the next 2-3 weeks.

Seems high, yes, as a frieght charge. If mixed with PDI and other taxes like A/C tax, etc, think it's normal.

There's not many TDI Sport Editions left, just so you know. They're nearly through.

Might be hard to negotiate pricing on a vehicle in short supply.  One thing I did when shopping for my new car was to "put it out to tender."  I simply wrote a short letter stating the exact model I wanted, asking for the best possible price, faxed it to all the local dealerships, and waited for the responses.  Some didn't bother, others quoted MSRP, and the serious ones sent me some amazing deals.  I picked the one that looked best, negotiated more in person, and signed the contract.

VW sales are down some 25-30% across the board, save for Touareg.

TDI Sport Editions are in short supply, but dealers should be looking to clear lots. Give 'er a try.
