Mdxtasy, dealers lose money selling used cars all the time. It's just a matter of making sure it doesn't happen too often.

i believe if a 2004 car were to be sold to a used car dealership and it was priced just a bit under msrp, it wouldnt sell instantly

but if it was the same price for a long time and its 2007, i think their better off taking a hit and selling it for what people might actually pay for it. very few cars have a value that will rise over the msrp if it has low kms on it(ie. toyota supra. in such demand that i want one)

I doubt it happens very often.  Especially on an E46 BMW.

No, probably not on that BMW. But it does happen regularly on other used cars. In fact, most used car dealers take part of the gross each time a vehicle is sold and put it into a special account to help cover the inevitable losses.

High demand....if you don't but it....somebody else will.  Those situations may occur on a car that sits on the lot for months on end with no takers.  In the end, it might be cheaper to sell at a small loss as that actually might save them money.
