How is Ford's Extended Service Plan (Warranty)?
« on: September 22, 2004, 01:25:57 am »
I'm going to be purchasing my leased 2001 Ford Explorer Sport and am considering going with Ford's Extended Service Plan.  Unfortunately for me it seems like most people's experience in the forums with extended warranties are mixed, and deal with Global or Lubico(?)--companies not Ford (and no mention of Explorers).

For the last three years I've only driven it 38,000km (the joys of living close enough to work to cycle in the summer) so I'm wondering if the warranty would be overkill, or if anyone has knowledge of the Explorer Sport's quality to say that it'd be worth it (and if so, at what level should I be considering).  Thanks!

The only warranties worth considering are the manufacturer-backed plans - like Ford ESP.

A warranty is always worth the money if you have to use it. No one can guarantee that you will or won't have a problem. If your financial situation is such that an unexpected expense of say, $2000 would be easy to pay for then the warranty may not be necessary. If you are like most people and the only place you could find $2000 is on a credit card, then a warranty will be worth every penny, IMO.
