Chris, I heard that the gov't was shutting that airport down anyways.

Booking my holidays today for that weekend.

I'll try to post more details, sad thing is this race is replacing Vancouver, not complementing it.  But it's only 4 1/2 hours away.

Bob Singleton sounded confident that there would be a Vancouver race one more year at least.  The disappearance of Vancouver and Laguna Seca from the circuit will both be unfortunate loses.

Chevy pulls out of the .1RL

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/indycar/auto/13770/

GM Racing’s decision pointed out the difficulties of manufacturers in the series, where diminishing returns due to rapidly rising costs and limited exposure have become a serious issue.

“At the beginning of the IRL, there was a certain model we could use and we were successful at it, Duchardt said. “That worked for us. There‘s no secret that the costs have gone up and the TV ratings and attendance have been flat or down. You have to lay that out. It is what it is. We have to make a decision based on our business model.

Let the domino's fall.

Good for TG…this looks good on him….soon Champ Cars will be back at Indy. With escalating costs and the dwindling sponsorship funds available….this is just the tip on the iceberg I believe.
Auto makers are having difficulty justifying the cost for racing when revenues from sales are shrinking. Sponsors are scarce as the price of admission is climbing due to race teams spending more to be competitive.
Even NASCAR is suffering…….stands are not full and tickets are abundant. I think the recent expansion of motor sports will burst and cause a contraction……less is better.
The audience is changing and the premier racing series need to attract the younger crowds. As the boomers retire and move on…..a new generation of race fans is emerging.

Where WILL the new generation COME from if everyone is PULLING OUT ?????...can Jeff & Snowie get a TSN deal fer their Kart F*art Venue???...TV makes it too easy for "fans" to watch racing and how many live within an hour of a big race AND will get off their a*S and PAY if they can sit and see it fer free....I bet SCCA run-offs give you more bang fer yer buck and variety....
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

It's official...RIP Vancouver Molson Indy.

http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?ID=105056&hubName=auto_racing

There was less than a 50/50 chance of it happening this year so this is not surprising.  But it's still too bad.  They put on a really good show.  I can only hope the Edmonton event enjoys the same kind of success as the Vancouver Indy has over the years.

Lets sing a song to Tony George….Camp Town Races…..no Champ Car Racers:

The Champcar racers sing this song
Toe-nee, Inn-dee!
The Champcar race track's zoom along
On, this Sun-day!

I come down here with my car dialed in
Toe-nee, inn-dee!
I go back home with a big fat grin
On, this Sun-day

Goin'to turn to the left, goin'to turn to the right
I’ll bet Tony is starting to sweat
race fans cheer with delight.

Not even Chevy wants to play
Toe-nee, in-dee!
CBS is coming and watch us grow
On, this Sun-day!

We will be running on the bricks very soon
Toe-nee, inn-dee!
You facked up big, you stupid bufoon
Oh, this Sun-day!

Goin'to turn to the left, goin'to turn to the right
I’ll bet Tony is starting to sweat
race fans cheer with delight.

Thanks for the update Bhatch.  The Edmonton Airports site had the press release of the last announcement, but it's not up there yet, and Champ Cars haven't updated their site yet, but all in good time.

Snowy...that's a good one, especially the chorus. 5 from me.

Thanks for the link, Neil.  No track map yet.  That makes it hard to decide to spend the big bucks on golds or go with silver.  At the Vancouver race, I liked the silver grandstand at the end of the Quebec St. straight.  If you're a serious race fan, they've pretty much got you buying Golds, because the pit/paddock passes are only being sold to gold seat ticketholders.  That's kinda lame.

Still...I'm excited.
