BIG fat Lemon for my Dog !!
« on: September 20, 2004, 02:48:46 pm »
DANG DOG - he's a great guy BUT is terrified of loud noises like thunder and gunshots. So, we're up in the bush/trails above where I live on Sunday and well into our walk, an orchard "popper" goes off (propane fired, sounds like a gunshot to scare birds away from the grapes). Drake goes crazy and takes off a running. I know he's terrified but nothing I can do as he's off leash in the open country. Takes me about 15 minutes to get back to where we parked the RAV4 and sure enough, Drake is hiding under the RAV (as I figured he would be). However, before I got there, Drake tried to get in the rear door, each of the 4 doors and (for some reason) up on the hood. OK, a 115lb dog with long nails trying to get in the RAV. Yep, a zillion scratches on the beautiful Spectra Blue Mica paint job. A guick tour this AM of 2 body shops confirmed my worst fears - about a $2,000 bill - so, I have to call ICBC, get an appt and make a claim under my comprehensive, then get it repaired. Will cost me $300 deductible but does not effect my rates as was not a collision claim.
Mad, I guess. Can't discipline the dog as it would be meaningless 20 mins after the event; and he would just not understand and take it as meanness. Suck it up I guess - but still - Geez.

Ouch....sorry to hear that Ovr....count your lucky stars it didn't happen on the Bullit.  A friend of mine had his BMW 330Ci scratched up by a new Lab....he drove up to the house after work and happy dog there pounced on the driver's door....scratching it trying to get at the guy.

Ouch. Loving animals can be expensive and just be thankful you are with ICBC - here it would be better to not file a claim for fear of losing your coverage.

My stupid dog likes to look in the windows on cars when they pull in the driveway. Of course she scratches them as well. I buffed most of them out with Meguires Scratch X (I think its called that) but they weren't right through the paint obviously. Disciplining her hasn't seemed to work so I think I'll just run her over next time.......Kidding!!!

Must be "grouchy Monday" or something here. Shnak took a swipe at muscle car owners and I bit back (but then I was still annoyed at my "dog damage"). Inco and others have Big-thumb mad about pre-judging the Ford 500. DSW offers some "tongue in cheek" advise to Wanna and Roadr is all over him for that.
We all need to lighten up here, certainly me included. Too many disputes for such a fun site...............

Agreed, Inco, but there's a big difference between Minh and the regular posters here having a bitchy day. Anyway, Grant yanked the stupid post by Minh which was the right thing to do, as it was a personal insult against another poster.

No thanks, Inco.  I stopped reading his posts a long time ago.  Even a fish learns to stop biting the hook eventually.  Not that I'm callng us all fish...(gotta be careful...gotta be careful...gotta be careful).

Ovr, sorry to hear about the doggy woes.  You're absolutely right in knowing that the fur-bag won't know what the heck he did wrong 20 minutes after.  Crappy situation.

Dave on this site had a similar problem recently.  His dog excitedly greeted him in his barely-weeks-old black RSX and left some lasting impressions too.  Thank goodness us level-headed dog-lovers know enough that there's little can be done.

OMG Ovr that must hurt. We had a German Shepard cross for 16 years and she too used to be scared silly of gunshots, fireworks etc. One time when we still had the 29ft trailer in a private park north of Marmoro(Ont. guys know where that is) she heard a shotgun go off across the lake (during duck season). She bolted for the trailer and didn't even slow down for the screen door. But like you say, you can't get on the dog for things like that.

Oh man that really hurts--sorry to hear about it Ovr.

Guess that is one of those things you just have to absorb(easy for me to say).

Where are you going to get it fixed?

Guess Drake is REALLY in the doghouse now!!
But honey it isn't "just a car'"

Jerry - yep, Drake is persona non grata, but I still think he's the best dog in the world.

I'll get it fixed at either Boyd's on Dayton or at Mervyn's on Harvey - probably Boyd's as the ownership of Mervyn's has recently changed and I don't know the new owners. Still waiting on exact quotes for now.

Uh, the car or the dog?

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the damage Ovr.  On a new car too.

Drake got fixed at 6 months - maybe that's why he's so afraid of loud noises - I wonder??

Just found out the damages today - $2150 something - glad I'm only paying $300, bad enough. New routine for the dog walk - we don't go partway in the vehicle.
