2005 Mazda3 Sport vs. 2005 Impreza RS Wagon
« on: September 15, 2004, 11:27:35 am »
I've pretty much narrowed down to these 2 cars for my next purchase.  I would like to ask for advice on the following.

- invoice prices
- insurance cost
- maintenance cost
- reliability

Thanks!

I had those two cars on my list before I got my mazda6 hatch.

Invoice price is about -2k off MSRP for both.

Finance rate is 3.8% (impreza) vs 5.9% (mazda3)for 48 months.

The Impreza has more cargo space but less rear seat room than the mazda3. The both i like but i probably would have went with the mazda3 (if i didnt get the 6) because it seemed to be a better value.

i have basically both engines.

i find that the subaru 2.5 is much smoother in its power delivery. the mazda has a strange gear ratio thing IMO and I often use the tiptronic but it is more fun when things get faster. it needs to be revved.

If u absolutely don't need AWD, then go with the Mazda3. Wait... this is a Canadian car forum.

Anyways, if it was compared to the previous TS wagon, I would've easily recommended the 3. But having checked out this new RS wagon, I have to reconsider my recommendation. It is still not as snazzy as the Mazda3. But the RS wagon is just as fun to drive. It has more TQ too. Also there's way too many Mazda3s. It's nice to be able to gun the car off the line on the wet without having to contend with wheelspin.... I believe the Subaru RS wagon has lower insurance than the 3. Heck even the Mazda6 hatch has a lower insurance than it's baby sibling!

Hooly shite! I did NOT realize that this guy was in every freaking thread starting with the same sentance EVERY single time.

You may be a Volvo guy blacky, but my respect for you has just lowered. I advice that you quickly change your ways if you wish to sitck around this forum without being labelled a troll.

A little late to avoid that label, isn't it?

I like both cars, and hope to buy or lease one in the next year or so.  I might just nurse the old car until the end of MY05, when a new 06 Impreza, and a new 06 Civic, may finally bring some discounts to Mazda5 perhaps some better deals on the 05 Impreza, which looks like a more attractive cat than the 06.
