Is it a good deal? 2004 Accord EX-L (Demo)
« on: September 13, 2004, 05:15:40 pm »
Hi guys,

There is a 2004 Accord EX-L with 15K Km. It is a Demo car and the price is $27500. There is no Freight/PDI. I am sure I can negotiate the price down to at least $26500. With 2.8%, do you think it is worth buying it? The brand new MSRP is $29600.

Any bad experience in buying the demo cars?

thanks
macsp

We once bought a Mazda demo cause it was the precise car we wanted, and got a screamin' good deal.  However, it only had 800 km's on it, not 15,000.  That Accord is NOT a "demo" but a used car that just hasn't been titled.

I would probably buy the car for about $26-27K including a Honda extended warranty.  Since 2003 used EX-L's seem to be about $24K or so with 20-25K, $26K would be a fair price for the 04.
No place I'd rather be...

It's a demo? hmm don't know if i'd ever buy a demo car. Having a thousand drivers befor you driving the car to its limits, testing the breaking, the stereos etc...

That said, i've never actually owned a demo car, so its quite possible that they're fine. I don't like the idea of owning a car thats been passed around more then an inmate in prison.

P.S I apologize in advance for my last remark

I see your points.  I was considering that the drivers would have pushed the car to the max limit.  I will keep that in mind.

Yeah, it must be a used car. Actually it is in the Used car section:-)

Lets see if anyone else has comments.

15K....that's a lot of test drives.  Considering you normally don't head out for more than 30km per drive....it should have atleast 1 year depreciation set in on the price.

if it's a Honda Canada factory demo it is likely discounted about 1% per 1000km, the invoice is irrelevant. If it is a dealer demo, it is depreciated but technically still has the same invoice.  I'm sure you can do better than $2000 off...try and get it as cheap as possible.  Brand new to you but the milage makes it already 1 year old to everyone else.

It's a used car. I was told by the Honda dealer that if the car hasn't been titled, they will have to charge Freight/PDI regarding of kms. If they don't charge you Freight/PDI, it has been titled and considered used.

Considering he asked about this over 2 months ago I hope he isn't still thinking about it.

Being called a "demo" doesn't mean that a million people have driven it. Demos are usually driven by dealership managers as their own vehicles. It may have gone on the odd test drive but probably nothing more than any other car on the lot.
