Chill people....it's a car forum, not the House of Commons.

To paraphrase Rodney King:  Can't we all just get along?

We owned a 1999.5 Pathfinder. It went through a midyear change. Overall it was a reliable vehicle, although we only had it for 2 years, but nothing did go wrong in that time period. Fuel consumption was poor but no worse than any other SUV as it had the 3.3 V6 with only 170 horsepower, way underpowered, I would avoid this vehicle for that reason. If we had only waited a couple of months we could have purachased the new version with 240...what an improvement. It seems to me like the Nissan X-trail is more of your kind of vehicle though as I see you're considering a CR-V. I would also suggest the Mazda Tribute.

That's my point exactly Keith... the Pathfinder compares favorably with other "real" SUVs, those with robust 4x4 systems, like the Cherokee, etc, etc. But comparing the Pathfinder to a CR-V is kind of pointless. They'll both have completely different attributes and strong points.

Like you said, if he's looking at the CR-V, he should also looking at the X-Trail, Tribute, Escape, RAV4, GM Equinox and maybe even the Subaru Forester. One might also want to take a look at the Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, Suzuki Aerio Fastback as they offer very similar levels of functionality, depending on your intented usage of course.

If he needs something a bit more serious for hauling boats, trailers, or doing some off-roading, then the Pathfinder, Cherokee or Suzuki Grand Vitara/XL-7 become interesting options.

Just my 2¢

Snack, you can say anything you want regarding my Mechanical ability but at least I have a heck of a lot more then you ever will. I do not like mechanic's who cheat people but from your past attitude you would cheat anybody you could to satisfy your own personal agenda. Its only about you all of the time. Can you even open a hood?

G.M makes fine cars Shnak..The current line of Caddie's are awesome. And while Barrie may have brand loyalty with G.M he certainly sees other vehicles as being viable alternatives. He's endorsed Honda, Toyota etc. So ease up a bit.

well of course he's endorsed Honda and Toyota... he has to try to keep the little credibility he still has!

And other than their terrible interiors, and long-term reliability, I agree that GM makes fine cars... well, other than the Sunfire/Cavalier that consistently gets 3s and 4s out of 10 in reviews I read... and from what I experienced while driving in them, they don't deserve much more than that... oh and the Safari/Astro never impressed me either. Neither did the Montana... The Oldsmobile Alero was a fine car, too bad their discontinued it.

As for Caddies, other than their cheap interior, and unproven long-term reliability, I don't have much against them... their styling isn't personally attracting me to them though, but I wouldn't hold that against them. Btw, what is Caddillac's target consummers? It used to be retired people, and now with their almost futuristic looks, it seems that they want to attract younger people, am I right?

Time for a fire extinguisher.  Easy fellas.  Just leave it alone and let's all try to keep this a peaceful place without personal attacks being thrown back and forth.

Again you render an opion that you have almost NO experience on. I will gladly give a Good Recomondation to any Vehicle that Deserves the Praise. Caddies have cheap interior and No History of reliability, thats why they have been around since around 1904. You might be wise to put your Brain in Gear before your Fingers in motion.

Whatever... there are better and more interesting (in my opinion, of course) options than whatever GM, Ford or Chrysler have come out with recently... In my cases, I'll take a 3-4 years old Honda, Toyota, Nissan instead of a similar brand new domestic vehicle. That's all I'm saying.

Shank, now I get the debate in the other thread  Gotta love those reliable 3-4 year old japanese cars with no warranty vs. a brand new domesitic with one...
