Does anyone know when the '05 CRV model come out?
« on: July 23, 2004, 08:52:34 pm »
We want a '02 or newer CRV EX(L) but the price is too high, about 3k more than our budget.  Don't really want to consider the '01 or older models but may have to unless the newer models are coming out soon and there will be a hope on price drop on '02 models.

Is Pathfinder good and reliable?  Which year and model are good?  They're not cheap either though.

I wouldn't touch the Pathfinder unless you really need it for some offroading... for regular city driving, it's terrible... fuel consumption is aweful.

For a purely city small SUV, I'd look towards the CR-V, RAV4, X-Trail, Tribute, Escape, etc.

The X-Trail might interest you most since it's brand new and sells for about 27k $. The Matrix might also interest you... I would say it has about the same amount of space as the RAV4, but with a smaller engine (Cololla). But it is quite cheaper too.

I don't think a Pathfinder will have worse gas mileage than a comparable midsize SUV.  The Pathfinder design has been around for ages and Nissan has built a good quality SUV.  However, being the 4WD beasts that they are, expect higher than average maintenance costs.  Unless you absolutely need a midsize SUV (nobody really does), I suggest looking into a minivan or stick with the small utes for the family.

Thanks for repeating exactly what I said Mdx... ;)

And Barrie, what did I say that you didn't agree with? That the Pathfinder is fuel thirsty? That it is overkill for someone that only does city driving?  What was wrong about my post?? I did mention the Escape just to please domestics nuts like you...

I have has experience with both the first generation CR-V and the Pathfinder.  In mostly highway driving the CR-V burned 9-10l/100km, the Pathfinder about 12-13l/100km.

Both excellent units built for different purposes.  The Pathfinder is one of the cushiest true 4x4s and I strongly considered buying one when I picked up the Jeep (resale is stupid high on these things).  The old 3.3 (2000 and back) is a reliable, underpowered (170hp)engine.  2001 and newer have a much more powerful engine that uses premium fuel.  12-13l/100km at $0.90+ a litre is soemthing to consider strongly.

That is a very good point as the difference can be up to .60 per gal or more some days. It does add up pretty quick.

One of my neighbours has a 2001 Pathfinder, and they love it for it's build quality and reliability.  It's comfy and rides nicely, but it is THIRSTY!  They use it mostly in the city and rarely break 17L/100kms.
No place I'd rather be...

I've been told that you can use regular on the new Pathfinder but premium is recommended - I don't know what this really means.  When a friend brought a brand new one he asked the dealer to write this on the sales contract - the dealer said "no".

I personally would cross any vehicle that required premium fuel off my list.

Anyone had a look at the 05 Escape AWD with the new 2.3L?  Transport Canada ratings 20 City/22 Highway! Pathetic!

ok Barrie... I don't get it... first, I mention to this guy that the Pathfinder might not be what he wants if all he needs is something to run around the city simply because the Pathfinder is (a lot) thirstier than the CR-V, X-Trail, RAV4, etc, etc. Then, you come in here and cry again that I don't have 30 years of car experience like you, and thus can't share my opinion. And THEN!, you basically agree when you say that it does add quickly when we consider that the Pathfinder uses premium fuel, and LOTS MORE of it...

Whatever...

The point I made is that you continue to comment on Many Different Topics where you have no experience and then get bent of shape when I diagree. Just like Pensions, you have never had one but certainly called the rest of us Lazy and stupid if we do. I also think you should read a little more into the posters statements before you comment on your Idea's or dislike's. PS its over 40 years experience that I have so this proves my point alone. I am not here to critisize the other posters unless I personally feel they need a correction. That is not very often, you do it constantly.

I'll ask my question again... what was wrong about my post in this thread?

I don't care what was said in other threads, and neither should you, you are not the posts-police.

Kingkong asked a simple question, to which I answered honestly to the best of my knowledge, and from what many others said in this thread, I was exactly correct.

It's funny how you systematically don't care when anybody else says exactly the same thing as I do... but as soon as 'Shnak' says something, ohhh he doesn't know what he's talking about. That's bull**** if you ask me. But then again, don't ask me, I don't know anything.

I wish they made that same shirt with Buttons and 2 pockets in Racing Colours. That would be nice. Sorry to be impolite but I think your last statement Shnak answers itself.

way to go Barrie... continue to escape my questions...

You must be one of those mechanics that give the bad reputation to all of the mechanics... "oh yeah that GM model is excellent...", a year later, "well, bad luck, head gaskets need to be replaced... you won't have any more problems after this...", another year later, "you transmission is busted, gotta put a new one in it".

I can so identify your type... old mentality, tried and tested is always the best way even though they cost more to run, break more often, pollute more, doesn't understand new technology that surrounds him... guys like you prevent the rest of us to go forward.
