I was just reading through the owner's manual of the new car and under the "Honda Care" section it said that Honda doesn't recommend that their cars get rustproofing from aftermarket places. However, many people swear by Krown and I was going to get it done in the fall.. any reason why this would appear in the manual??

In case somebody does it wrong.  They can void the rust warranty knowing somebody other than Honda did it.  Oh yeah...it's also there to scare people to using Honda to do it so they get a piece of the pie.

MDXTASY is right, all the manufactures say this.  Their dealers would have a sh*t fit if the car makers implied otherwise.

My son, high school student, works for the leading non domestic new car dealer.  He is the rust proofer.  $8.50 an hour.  Sprays a wax oil (dripless) on new cars.  They spray into the drain holes only (useless) and all over the hinges, etc., as well as the underneath.  Cost is $795.00 plus taxes.

Everyone in the place knows it's absolutely useless service/product.  They also know that their cars will not rust "through" in seven years regardless of any treatment.  Remember, "rust perforation" for warranty purposes means a HOLE, not simply surface rust.  Very possible that a car will show signs of surface rust in 7 years but never a HOLE.

KEITH:  This afternoon I'm going to pickup a brand new 2002 Civic SIR at a Honda dealer in Hanover which is a small town.  Fabulous dealer.  They will not sell rustproofing to cutomers.  Their position is that they want you to come back again and again so "stealing" from their customers is not their number one goal (selling dealer applied "rust proofing" to women, old people and the odd stupid guy is stealing).

I'll get it Krown mid summer.  Just did the 95 Saab "winter beater and repair beast" yesterday before I parked it for the season.  Didn't like paying on that car, but necessary.

Artic -- new car?!!!  You keepin' this quiet on us here?!!!  Shame on you.

Brand new '02 -- you must've got a great deal.  I know Hanover (Ont?) well -- pass through it every time en route to the cottage -- usually stop at the Stork Club for ice cream.  :-)

What colour did you get?  Post pics!

Jeff, no digital camera or I'd have had it up.

Son blew up the Talon TSI/AWD a few weeks ago, so we were weighing the repair option or selling it as is and getting something a wee bit more fuel efficient.

Wandered into the Honda dealer in Hanover on Monday because a base Civic at 3.8 @ 60 months is a pretty good deal considering gas mileage.

So low and behold is this 2002 SIR (the yellow/goldie/greenie colour).  On it already is a full, excellently done black out job, sunroof wind deflector/sun screen/none glue type, 4 moulded mud guards and the ultra expensive rear spoiler that I would never buy (looks great/but too much $$$).

This is a no dicker dealer.  List is $25,500 plus $1400 in options.  They offer $19,000 plus $1,025 (PDI/FREIGHT/AIR TAX and FUEL TAX)  NO ADMIN FEE!!!!! Only General Manager and assistant sell cars there.

Anyways, financing is 4.8 for 60 mths.  Payment is $433.64 (pay out anytime/no other fees).  This includes PST/GST>

The car is loaded, recaro style seats.  Getting 4 used Moyegi (spell) used 16 rims and putting 225/50/16 Hankkooks on it.

I'll post the pic when we get some film.

In "new car reviews" go to 2002 Civic SIR and the authors description of everything is right on.  Stock tires are too small.  Everything else is fantastic.

thats a killer deal. most 2002 SiR's in BC are listed around 21000 without all the goodies. I've seen 2000 Sir's for 21000 hahaha. Thats a 2000 depreciation for 4 years. Crazy

Yeah, geez, that is a kick-azz deal -- good for you!  I've always wanted to drive one of those little bombs -- how long does it take to adjust to the unusual shifter placement?

Cool little machine.  I wished I'd been able to talk the missus into that instead of her LX coupe two years ago.  :-)

I look forward to the pics!

Railton;  son ripped the tranny bellhousing in half so one half still attached to motor and one half to tranny and when clutch depresses, the two halfs split and so on.  So in order to just see what kind of damage occurred would mean rear drive shalf out, transfercase out, all that turbo piping, front axles, one of which I know won't come out from other fix, then tranny out all on a 14 year old car.  So a possible $2000 job because I know other parts would be needed and it would take us about 10 days (in other words, all damm summer). Great car though.

Saint11;  It was  a fluke.  Wouldn't have got it normally.  Dealer says, and on www.clubsi.com as well, the car is overpriced for target market.  Namely young kids.  Dealer says almost sold 5 times but insurance was killing deal for young ricer kids and older folks either hated the colour or didn't understand the merits of the car.  This is Hanover after all.

Jeff1;  Dealer was right on when he told me shifter takes about 2 minutes to get used to. It is perfect in this car because one sits rather high up in relation to the floor. Although, it doesn't feel that way because the roof is very high.  Big time room in cabin being a hatch.  The shifter quality was a huge surprise.  Perfecto, IMO.  Both son and I amazed at how light the clutch was.

Dealer invoice was $24,000 and small change and he was compensated by Honda for loss so he says.

Overall, excellent.  Now just $26,000 to pay off!

JPD;   What extra fees do you mean?
