This weeks test vehicle is the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 crew cab 4WD (four wheel drive) LTZ. Essentially it is a fully loaded 1/2 ton crew cab pickup truck. With 5.3′ box that extends to over 8 feet long with the ability to carry 4 x 8 sheets of material with the tailgate close, this vehicle is extremely versatile.

My test vehicle is a fully loaded LTZ model; it includes such amenities as dual zone climate control, XM radio and a rear DVD entertainment system with wireless headsets. The Avalanche feels like a large luxury vehicle on the road although it does remind you it is a body on frame design when going over large bumps, the 20″ wheels tend to smooth out smaller imperfections in the road.

The Avalanche looks very similar to the Honda Ridgeline from the side which I reviewed a few months back. I should actually say the Ridgeline looks like the Avalanche as the Avalanche was first to market. While the Ridgeline is a unibody frame construction the Avalanche is a truck through and through.

Powered by a 310hp / 335lb-ft tq 5.3L V8 with cylinder deactivation technology the Avalanche has a maximum towing capacity of 7800lbs and a payload of almost 1500lbs.

2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 4WD LTZ
MSRP as tested: $56,255
