Redesigned in the 2011 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado HD (heavy-duty) 2500 and 3500 models undergo several changes for 2012. The maximum towing, conventional hitch, payload and GCWR ratings all increase. The Work Truck adds new standard features, and a premium navigation stereo is available.
The Silverado HD is also sold as the GMC Sierra HD. Light-duty 1500 models are covered in a separate section.
The Silverado HD is available in regular, extended cab and crew cab models, in two- or four-wheel drive, and with a 6.0-litre V8 gasoline engine or available Duramax 6.6-litre V8 diesel. Both use six-speed automatic transmissions: a Hydra-Matic 6L90 with the gasoline engine, and Allison 1000 with the diesel. The 3500 models are available in single-wheel or dual-wheel versions.
